Principal's Message
We have some great learning news to share with our families! As one of the division's flagship schools for restorative practices we have begun work again this year with our division consultant to support learning about our brains (the roles and functions of the brain), co-regulation strategies and brain micro resets. While all of our classes will be included in this imporatant learning, we are currently working with classes 11, 12, and 51/61. In addition, we are happy to announce that we have a teacher supporting literacy learning for part of her assignment this year. Mme Lopez will be working with classroom teachers to help to support student success with reading. We are so fortunate to have this extra layer of support available to help our students become even more proficient and successful with their literacy abilities!

Students may come in costume if they'd like! Parents, you may just want to consider any costume tripping or visibility hazards (while dancing) for your child if they do wish to wear their costume. Our amazing School Council has everything organized for us, lighting, fog machine, a concession, glow sticks, the DJ, and all the amazing fun that we will have!
Concession Prices:

Halloween is fast approaching! Here are some considerations and our plan for the day:
- Costume considerations:
- Students are welcome to come dressed in their costumes for the full day of school.
- Please remember costumes need to be "Elementary Friendly".
- Students are not allowed to bring in weapons or loose accessories that could become weapons.
- If costumes have a mask, students will be asked to keep the mask in their locker until the school parade at 1:10 p.m. and they will then be asked to return masks to their lockers when the parade is over.
- Costume parade:
- this annual activity will begin around 1:10 p.m. in the gym. Parents are welcome to join us, though we won't have seating. Feel free to stand around the walls of the gym.
- Class Halloween Activities:
- Classes will work hard on regular school work in the morning and then once the parade is over, students will return to their classes and begin Halloween activities that have been planned by the teacher. Each class is celebrating the day a little differently, if you have specific questions about the afternoon, please watch for newsletters from your teacher or email them directly.
Remembrance Day: We have already begun our planning and preparation for this year's Remembrance Day ceremony on Friday, Nov. 8.
- Do you have a child in Girl Guides, Scouts, or Cadets? If your child is interested, we'd love to have them participate in this year's ceremony. Please email me at tandy.atchison@eips.ca to let me know. also, any students with uniforms for Guides, Scouts and Cadets are welcome to wear them for the ceremony.
- If you have members of your family who are currently serving, or who are veterans with the Canadian Armed Forces, please fill out this quick survey
Have a great week everyone!

Book Fair Wrap Up
Thank you to everyone for your support of our book fair! Our sales were $6418.50 which translated into $1140 of books taken for the library and $941.90 for the school. Scholastic changed their funding model this year and we had to sell over $5000 to get to the top tier of rewards. Instead of taking 50% back in their credits, I opted for a mix of credits (what I took from the fair for the library – the books students wished for in the monkey) and 25% back in cash. In addition to this, 71 books were purchased off the teacher wish lists. You are all amazing!
I would also like to thank my book fair grade 6 volunteers. I couldn’t run a book fair without you!
Lost Library/Home Reading Resources:
If your child loses a library or home reading book, please contact the school. If the book is not found within 30 days, the cost of the resource will be assigned to the “Fees” section of your PowerSchool account. Please note, if the book is found within 30 days, a refund will be granted. However, if the book is found after 30 days, a refund will not be granted as we will have purchased a replacement for the library’s collection.

Elk Island Public Schools
Did you know?
EIPS is committed to a productive and collaborative relationship with parents and caregivers. As such, the Division has a Committee of School Councils (COSC) comprised of representatives from school councils across EIPS. From October to May, COSC members meet monthly with the Board of Trustees and senior EIPS administration to discuss educational issues and trends, while sharing valuable information with one another to best enhance student success. In recognition of the effort and dedication of EIPS families and staff in engaging with their school communities, the Division was honoured to receive the Division School Council Engagement Award from the Alberta School Councils’ Association last April. To learn more, visit the EIPS website.
The Board of Trustees meets throughout the school year to discuss and make decisions regarding matters important to students, families, schools, communities and public education overall. Community members are encouraged and welcome to attend in person or to tune into the public livestream on the EIPS YouTube channel. For 2024-25 Board Meeting dates, visit the EIPS website and subscribe to the Division calendar.

Division Code of Conduct
EIPS has three administrative procedures (APs) that address the Division’s code of conduct:
· AP 311: Welcoming, Caring, Respectful and Safe Learning Environments for Students
· AP 350: Student Code of Conduct
· AP 351: Student Conduct on School Buses
The Division, and École Parc Élémentaire, are committed to ensuring all members of the school community are provided with welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environments that respect diversity and foster a sense of belonging. EIPS encourages all students, staff and families to review the procedures to understand and practice the conduct expected throughout the Division.
Video surveillance at schools and on buses
Did you know each EIPS bus is equipped with video surveillance, and many school sites have video monitoring equipment?
Video surveillance and equipment help:
· ensure the safety of all students, staff, drivers and property; and
· discourage destructive acts.
As needed, EIPS school administration and Student Transportation staff review video recordings, in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act. The recordings assist schools and the Division with monitoring student and driver conduct and may be used as evidence in a disciplinary matter.
For more information about the collection, use and disclosure of personal information, contact the EIPS FOIP Co-ordinator at 780-464-3477.
