Mrs. Leeper's Readers
Spring is planting season! Kindergarten through sixth grade have planted a variety of flower and vegetable seeds in our classroom. Along with planting seeds, each student has their own “Planting Journal”. They are tracking and recording the changes in their plant each day. It’s always exciting to see plants grow, no matter what age we are!
The students are showing what they know and how much they have grown as readers, as I give them the end of the year reading assessment. It’s fun to see the progress they have made!
What's Happening In Music?
Wow! Where has the last month gone?
There has been a lot of rehearsing going on in the afternoons here. We have been polishing our songs for our performance May 9. The concert will be held in the Graham gym at 6:00 p.m. I’m sure the students will be ready for “game days” the remaining days of school.!!!
Art
In the Art room we are busy finishing up projects for the year. Each student has also been given the opportunity to draw a picture that will be sent to Art To Remember. This is a great company that will transfer the kids' artwork onto things such as magnets, notebooks, cups, blankets, aprons, necklaces, etc. Each student will receive an order form, where you can order these cool items, if you would like. These make great gifts for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Grandparents, or even gifts for the student that created the design. In return, the Nodaway-Holt Art room will get money for each item ordered. This money will buy art supplies that aren't in the normal school budget, so the students can experience even more great art projects.
Once again, thank you for sharing your student with me. Please remember that hanging a child's artwork, not only shows them you are proud, but it gives them self-confidence and the courage to keep trying and learning new things!
Library News
The year is coming to a close which means all library books are due back Thursday, May 9. Any lost books will need to be paid for by the end of the school year. I’ll be sending bills home next week. Please check at home for any lost materials.
In more upbeat news, the end of the year brings several fun library rewards for our kids who have worked so hard at reading all year! This Friday night is the Library Lock-in for any 4th-6th graders who read at least seven of this year’s Mark Twain or Truman nominees. It will be six fun hours of bounce houses, movies, scavenger hunts, games, and lots of food! So far, twenty students have punched their tickets to the Lock-in! The 50 Point Club is also being treated to a bounce house party at the end of the day Friday. Finally, there will be an ice cream sundae bar next Friday, May 10 for all members of the 100 Point Club! Way to go, readers!
Let’s keep reading this summer! The library will have some open hours during June. Stay tuned for further details.
What's Happening in PE
We are just finishing up our baseball units. Kindergarten and 1st grade have been playing tee-ball and 2nd - 6th grades have been playing wiffle ball. We are looking forward to field day. Field Day will be held on the last day of school (May 16th) and will be 9:00-11:00am. Students will be competing in throwing, kicking, and jumping activities and we will end with our running event and sack race. I hope that you can come and watch!
