Message From Mrs. Glover and Mrs. McCraney

Hello September!

We have completed the first three weeks of school 😀 Our students continue to build relationships with their teachers and their classmates. They are getting used to their classroom and school routines. During the month of September we will be conducting SEL Lesson in every classroom. Our goal is to empower all of our students to be the best version of themselves at all times.

Starting in September, teachers will begin nominating students for the "Be Kind" monthly award. Students who show exemplary kindness in different ways in classroom and common areas will be nominated by their teacher for an award and recognition.

We need YOUR help PARENTS!! Throughout the month of September, choose some of the activities below to reinforce concepts learned with counselors.

* Read stories with your child and discuss the characters' feelings (empathy)

* Model for your children what Empathy and Kindness looks like

* Create empathy maps: Choose an emotion, then brainstorm what you might say, think, and do when you see someone feeling that way.

* Praise empathetic behavior when seen

👍🏽 I Am Enough Week 👍🏽

Elementary youth initiative to help students show appreciation and self value to themselves!

👧🏾 Helping Your Child 👧🏾

We still have some students that have difficulty walking into the school by themselves. YOU can help by teaching them to be more independent. Allow them to carry their own backpacks and walk on their own. This will help to build their confidence and understand their job as a child is to come to school and yours as a parent is to drop them off and pick them up. We encourage you to use the drop off lanes also. Staff members will assist you in getting your child out of the car if they are having a difficult time.

9/7 = Garden Day 8:00 - 11:30

9/9 = "I Am Enough" week

9/18 = "Education Go Get It" Week

9/27 = Hispanic Heritage Night 5:30 - 7:30

Mission & Vision

The mission of the De Zavala Counseling Department is to collaborate with stakeholders to promote kindness, compassion and respect among the entire student body by providing them with the social emotional tools needed to assist with real-life experiences.

The vision of the De Zavala Counseling Department is to empower all students in reaching their maximum potential and becoming responsible, contributing 21st century leaders. Through our comprehensive counseling program, we will address academic, social emotional and career goals which will empower their college, career, military and emotional readiness.
