Happy Staff Appreciation Week!
This week is Staff Appreciation Week, and while one week could never capture the full impact our staff have, it’s a chance to pause and say "thank you." Across every role and building, our team shows up for kids in ways big and small, from a quiet moment of encouragement to the countless behind-the-scenes efforts that keep our schools running. We see the heart you put into your work, and we’re grateful for all that you do to make this district a place where students feel supported, challenged and cared for.
Thank you to the absolute best staff around! We appreciate you!

We wish them all the best and extend our sincere thanks for their outstanding service.

Geothermal at Ravinia
On April 16, we were proud to celebrate the groundbreaking of the geothermal HVAC project at Ravinia. This marks an exciting milestone in our district’s sustainability and reconstruction journey. Ravinia is the first of three schools to receive a state-of-the-art geothermal energy system, and the project marks the first-ever installation anywhere in the United States of this specific geothermal system, known as the DCL (Direct Closed Loop) system. It uses energy from the earth to move fluid through a closed loop of underground pipes, significantly reducing our environmental impact while improving energy efficiency across the district.
Month of the Military Child
Wayne Thomas and Northwood wrapped up the Month of the Military Child with a memorable Touch-a-Truck event, where students had the chance to explore military vehicles up close and try on real gear. A heartfelt thank you to the U.S. Marines who made the experience so exciting and meaningful for our students.
And an even bigger thank you to our military families for all you do and the many ways you enrich our community!

Art in Bloom
What is the 112 Foundation?
Founded in 1995 and celebrating its 30th anniversary, the 112 Foundation is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization committed to enriching and enhancing educational opportunities for all students in North Shore School District 112. Since it operates separately from the district and doesn’t receive tax revenue, the Foundation relies on community support and fundraising to bring innovative programs to D112 schools.
Safety and Security
Parents should be aware of popular apps that may pose risks to children, including anonymous messaging, location sharing and access to inappropriate content. Regularly checking devices, reviewing downloaded apps, and using parental controls can help keep children safe. Ongoing conversations about responsible social media use and online safety are also important for protecting children from potential dangers.
Below is a list of apps parents should know (Click the image to view a larger version).
Technology
Artificial Intelligence at D112
As you know, the district has been exploring how generative artificial intelligence can enhance learning, teaching, and productivity. We currently have ongoing pilots with Magic School AI and School AI. You’re welcome to explore both platforms anytime using the links below:
If you’d like to engage further and explore the reasoning behind our use of these tools, check out a new assistant created by Dr. Lubelfeld.
Technology Help
Having an issue with your student's device? Need assistance with district software, such as Infinite Campus? Submit a support ticket and a member of our tech team will reach out as soon as possible.

The agenda sets a clear path for our future, focused on student success, well-being and strong relationships.
