Principal's Message
Comet Nation,
As we close out the first grading period, our faculty and staff at Steele would like to extend our gratitude to our Steele families and students. This year has already been filled with tremendous accomplishments and we have much to be proud of. We look forward to the second grading period, where we are excited about the possibilities for our students. Report cards for the first grading period are available in Powerschool Parent Portal. Academic Recognition for High Honor Roll, Honor Roll, and Merit Roll will be published in our November 8th edition of the Steele Report.
We hope you enjoy this Steele report with updates from our World Languages department, counseling department, athletic department, and much more. As always, feel free to contact the main office with any questions or concerns.

Amherst Marching Comets
The Amherst Marching Comets performed at State Marching Band Finals in Columbus on Saturday, October 26 for the 22nd year in a row. The Amherst Marching Comet Achieved a Superior Rating! The band also marched in the annual Amherst Halloween Parade. Although our competitive season will ended this weekend, we are excited to continue cheering the Comets to victory in the playoffs!
We would like to thank all the students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community members for their continued support. Without your support, none of this would be possible!
Go Comets!

Department Updates: World Languages
Buenos dĆas and Bon jour! This month the World Language Department of Steele High School would like to share some of the fun and exciting things happening in our classes!
French with Madame Gorodea:
The French classes have started the school year with comprehensive reviews of their knowledge of French grammar, vocabulary and cultural topics that they studied in previous levels. French 1 students were introduced to basic communication structures in French, and to some fundamental customs of the Francophone world. We are currently preparing the first French Food Feast of the year, and also beginning to learn about the festivities for All Saints' Day (La Toussaint).
Spanish One with Senior Layport
In Spanish 1, students have just finished Unit 1. This week, they are learning about "How to tell time." Spanish level 1 learners are preparing to take the first unit comprehensive exam. They should be able to understand a group of native-speaker friends saying hello to each other, asking how their friends are doing, introducing new friends to the group, and saying goodbye. They can also listen to and understand a group of native speakers telling what country they are from and their nationality (e.g., "I am Peruvian; I'm from Canada"). Moreover, students can count from 0 to 30 in Spanish, write simple sentences with the verb "ser" (to be), and tell time.
Spanish Two with SeƱora Volzer:
We are learning about all things TRAVEL! Of course, we have talked about the weather and how the weather is in different Spanish Speaking countries, and how the southern hemisphere is opposite the northern hemisphere. We are learning Modes of Transportation and vocabulary with traveling.
We are incorporating many interactive and communicative activities to help us master the vocabulary and make it relevant to real life, such as reading stories, singing songs and partner activities.
We will incorporate the cultural component of Day of the Dead and La Llorona with this lesson as well.
Spanish Three with SeƱora Kasnyik:
In level two classes, students are practicing weather vocabulary by learning about other climates in the Spanish speaking world. They were assigned a city in another country and asked to do research on the climate which included warmest/coldest months, rainiest months, average temperatures and a weekly forecast.
MLS Counseling Department
OHYES Surveys!
On November 26th, all students will be completing the OHYes! survey in their 3rd period class. A letter has been handed out to the students explaining the OHYes! survey. Links to the survey and a copy of the letter are listed below. Please contact your student's school counselor with any additional questions.
PSAT Scores
Starting October 24th, students will be able to access their PSAT scores. Students will need to go to the Collegeboard website. They will need to login to their account. If they do not have an account, they will need to create one. From there, students will be able to access their scores on their Dashboard. Please reach out to your student's counselor with any questions.
JVS Sophomore Career Day
On Thursday, November 21st, the Sophomore class will visit the Lorain County JVS for Sophomore Career Day. Our students will be exploring two programs of interest during our visit. We are excited for this opportunity and cannot wait to share this experience with our students.
For any sophomores who still need to submit their programs of interest, please see Mrs. Diaz or Mrs. Jones ASAP.
Fall College Representative Visits at Steele
Every fall, Steele offers juniors and seniors with a valuable opportunity to attend college representative visits. These 30-minute sessions take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays in our Steele Presentation area, typically at 9:15 am. During these sessions, admissions representatives from various colleges stop in to give an overview of their institutions. They provide detailed information about admissions processes, scholarships, and important deadlines.
This is a great chance for juniors to learn about different colleges and universities and for seniors to ask any questions they might have about the admissions process, majors, scholarships, etc. Students can register for these visits through their SchoolLinks account, which is accessible via their Amherst Launchpad/Classlink login. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Cooney.
