Book Cubes
Promote Your Favorite Book from This Year
Overview of Book Cubes
Using a 6" by 6" box, you'll create a 6-sided cube about your book. On each side, you'll put information about your book and decorate it in the same mood or theme as your book.
Requirements:
- One side must be a "cover side" that clearly promotes the title and author of your book--and preferably a cover image of the book.
- A second side must use persuasive writing
- A third side must use descriptive writing
- A fourth side must use summary writing
- The other two sides are your choice
- Altogether, your book cube must have at least 300 words of writing.
The Six Different Sides
Side One: The Cover Side
One side will promote the title and author of your book. Ideally, it would also have an image of the cover so other readers know what to look for. Make this stunning, eye-catching, and attractive.
Side Two: Persuasion
One side should focus on persuasive writing. This may be a mini-book review, a list of 5-reasons to read the book, or another form of persuasive writing.
Side Three: Description
A third side must be a form of descriptive writing. This might be a description of the setting (perhaps with a map?), a description of the characters, or another form of descriptive writing. Remember that descriptive writing should use the senses, so focus on sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch when working on this side.
Side Four: Summary
A fourth side should give a summary of the book, but no spoilers! This may include a book blurb (like you would find on the back of a book), a 6-word memoir, or a "tweet" of 140 characters summarizing the book.
Sides Five & Six: Your Choice
Possibilities include:
- An author biography (that you have written, not copy/pasted)

- A photo collage
- Other related books to this one
- A character diary entry
- A poem about the book
- Quotations from the book
- A character map
- A map of locations in the book
