Thank You, MTSD! β
On Tuesday, November 5, our community approved the $26.4 million operational referendum on the ballot for the Mequon-Thiensville School District. The ballot measure was approved by a margin of 52% yes to 48% no. We are deeply thankful for the support of this community! This investment will have a lasting, positive impact on our schools, students, and the vitality of the Mequon-Thiensville community for years to come. We are incredibly grateful for the community's support and investment in our students, our educators, and our future.
In the coming weeks, the District will begin the 2025-2028 Strategic Planning process, where community members, will have the opportunity to participate in focus groups and provide input via a survey to support and inform our strategic planning process. Please stay tuned for updates as our work continues, and thank you for making us Proud to be MTSD!
MTSD Continues to "Significantly Exceed Expectations" on the State Report Card
With the release of the Wisconsin State Report Cards earlier today, we are proud to announce that the Mequon-Thiensville School District achieved a ranking of βSignificantly Exceeds Expectationsβ with an overall score of 83.1. The district's ranked score is the 10th highest score, or in the top 2%, among 367 K-12 public school districts in the state. MTSD has significantly exceeded expectations all ten years that the District Report Cards have been produced. This achievement is a result of the extremely hard work and dedication that you put into your roles as educators each day, so we want to share our gratitude with you all for this accomplishment!
As part of the state accountability system, the DPI produces report cards for every publicly funded school and district in Wisconsin. ββThough the DPI warns against comparing outcomes longitudinally in that how scores are arrived at has changed from year to year, the report cards are a resource that the District uses to reflect on our strengths and areas for improvement. They provide a helpful point of comparison against other comparable Wisconsin public school districts. Four priority areas are at the foundation of the Wisconsin District and School Report Cards. Schools and districts receive a score for each priority area:
Achievement - measures the level of knowledge and skills among students in the school, compared to state and national standards in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics on the annual state assessments
Growth - year-to-year progress in ELA and math achievement
Target Group Outcomes - outcomes for the students in the lowest quartile in the school
On-Track to Graduation - reliable predictors of how successfully students are progressing toward completing their K-12 education
New for this year, state assessments were updated for 2023-24, including new performance level categories and updated standards. The results from these updated assessments are included in the 2023-24 report cards. The scoring of achievement components on the 2023-24 report cards has also been modified to allow for comparability and stability in the system.
MTSD Elementary Report Card Update π
New Elementary School Standards-Based Report Cards: What Parents Need to Know
Weβre excited to introduce standards-based reporting at our elementary schools! This approach provides a clear and detailed picture of your childβs progress toward mastering grade-level priority standards.
Unlike traditional letter grades, the new report card focuses on growth and learning, highlighting specific strengths and areas for improvement. Starting December 9, report cards will be available on the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
Time to Get Ready for Inclement Weather! β
Flex Day Reminder πͺ
As a reminder, MTSD builds 2 (two) inclement weather/emergency days into its school year calendar. A Flex Day is a day that is scheduled for instruction unless the school district only experiences 1 (one) inclement weather/emergency day. If only 1 (one) inclement weather/emergency day is used, the Flex Day will be a day off for students and an in-service day for staff. If both emergency/inclement weather days are used, the Flex Day will remain a regular day of instruction for students.
HHS Instructional Hours & Potential for Virtual Learning Day
Should the district experience more than 2 (two) inclement weather days, Homestead High School may need to transition to a virtual learning day (in addition to attending on the Flex Day) to meet the instructional minutes requirement according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. In the event this occurs, communication and directives will be shared directly with Homestead staff, students, and families.
