First graders shined at their Holiday Concert this week! They also performed a few songs during our Leader of the Pack assembly. Thank you, Ms. Finch, for all your work preparing for the concert. With over 100 people in the audience, it was a huge success. Thank you, families, for always supporting our students and celebrating their learning!

The end of the semester brings the culmination of units of study. This week, as I visited classrooms, I saw 3rd and 4th grade students hard at work writing essays and "Choose Your Own Adventure" stories. Teachers and students have been reflecting on the progress made during the first half of the year and celebrating students' accomplishments. Our hallways are filled with student artwork guided by Ms. Swanson. Grade levels have hosted more Celebrations of Learning, and we are so grateful for all the families who come to be an audience for our students.

Creating High Quality Work is a central tenet of the EL Education model. This is work that shows craftsmanship, authenticity and complexity. Each year, we work to deepen our practices in these areas. In November, Preschool students studied creative arts! They read the text, The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse by Eric Carle, and they created collaborative artwork that is now displayed outside Ms. Stephanie's room. Amazing!

6th grade orchestra, led by Ms. Chaplin, played a few tunes for kindergarten at lunch!

Trailside will be conducting ACCESS testing for our emerging bilingual students beginning January 14 through January 31. The purpose of this federally required testing is to assess students’ English language proficiency in areas such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing and is used to help determine language proficiency levels. Test administration times vary. Total testing time may be up to 4 hours 30 minutes. For more information, visit the Mapleton Assessment page. Attention Preschool through 6th grade families - you are invited to the second annual Trailside Movie Night! Join us from 5-7pm in the gym. You can wear your pajamas and bring a blanket. We will serve free popcorn and hot chocolate before the show. At intermission, we will have pizza available for sale. It will be a cozy evening to look forward to after the hustle and bustle of the holiday season!

SAAC (School Advisory and Accountability Committee) met this week to review enrollment, share celebrations and ideas, and review school budget and spending. Families considered what has been a highlight of the fall, and what might be a wish for moving forward. If you were unable to attend the meeting but would like to share your feedback, you are welcome to complete this short survey.

We will meet again in March, but we will move the meeting to the morning to try to increase participation. Consider joining us on Friday, March 14th at 8:30am in the cafeteria.

This month, we had an average attendance rate of 91.1% - the first time in years that we have stayed above 90% in December. Way to go, Timberwolves!!

It is not uncommon for students to experience anxiety about coming to school, especially when returning from an extended break. Check out these resources to learn more about unexpected symptoms of anxiety and ways you can support your student so they are ready to come back strong in January!
