Students will be taking the Star Assessments starting the week of August 26th. We take the Star three times throughout the school year and these assessments are very important. Here are some things to remember.

1. Students need to answer the questions without any help. I know it's hard to watch our kids struggle but for these tests, teachers need to know what your student knows and what they still need to learn.

2. Students have to have a working microphone and camera. They also need to share their screen while they work on the assessments.

3. Students will take two assessments, Reading and Math.

August 26-30: Star360 Assessments (in regular class time)

September 2: Labor Day (no school)

September 5: Elementary Back to School Bingo Bash

• Class connect attendance is extremely important in addition to completing online coursework. Please prioritize attending class every day and email all applicable teachers if you know you are going to be absent. Communicate with your homeroom teacher asap about any scheduling conflicts once you have your class schedule.
• Create a family schedule to stay on track with all students' class connects.
• Come to class prepared. Be sure to eat, use the restroom, do chores, etc. before or after class connects. Log in to class a few minutes early with your materials to be ready to start on time.

We will be working in the Liftoff portion of a program called Progress Learning. We are completing diagnostics in class and then you will be able to work in your Galaxy. Below is a video to help you navigate Progress Learning/Liftoff. You are expected to be working in Progress Learning/Liftoff for 20 minutes a day. Diagnostics MUST be complete in order to work in progress learning!

ELA Unit 1 is reading and writing summarizations and comparisons of different Cinderella Stories. Students will be exploring different cultures through these stories. After each story, have your students practice writing a paragraph (4-8 sentences) summarizing the story. Encourage your student to include the following

• Characters (good and evil)
• Setting (where and when)
• Events (beginning, middle, and end)

Brainstorm how each story could change to be more modern. Foster different names, locations, genders, and events. Maybe instead of a ball, maybe it's a talent contest. Practicing now will make the teacher graded assignment due on Sept. 1st much easier.

Students will be learning about multiplication facts these first two units. It is vital for our fourth graders to know how to multiply. Division, fractions, perimeter, area, etc. are all built off of multiplication. There are many strategies out there to support your fourth grader in mastering this skill. 4th graders are expected to know multiplication facts between 0-12. This means they know from 0 x 0=0 all the way to 12x12=144.

Spend 20 minutes each school day working on multiplication facts this school year.

Students can connect with their classmates and teachers in the Zone! Students can connect with others through video, chat function, and audio. Additionally, the K12 Zone offers many activities for students, such as chess games, tic-tac-toe, library access, scavenger hunts, access to Stride ESports, and much more.

The zone will be open daily at 8:30am and 2:00pm.
