Core Classroom Updates
English Language Arts
This has been a busy week in ELA. We made our first trip to the LMC (Library Media Center) to check out books. It is the expectation for students to have a book to read during WIN. We also read “Heartbeat” from out literature books. The students annotated the story, focusing on characterization and conflict. On Thursday, the classes enjoyed a visit from Mrs. Walker, our school counselor, and Mr. Staley, our MFLAC. Students learned a bit more about the role each one has at Patton.
Next week, we will continue our study of “Heartbeat” finishing with a quiz at the end of the week. Also, in order to get back on our LMC schedule, we will visit the LMC again on Tuesday.

ESOL
We have had a wonderful start the first two weeks of school. We have finished our All About Me presentations. It was very interesting and fun to learn about my students and their families and travel. We have begun reading a book in google classroom. Students have learned how to open a book placed into google classroom and learned how to edit the quiz and worksheets associated with the story. They will demonstrate their ability to comprehend a story with written responses. This will occur weekly throughout the year. Next week we will begin sentence construction and the proper way to write in English sentences.
