Our Spiritual Theme
Our Spiritual Theme: We Walk by Faith
March Focus: We Walk by Faith... in Piety
Spiritual Reflection by Miss Sheila O'Callaghan
On Sunday, March 9, we celebrate the First Sunday of Lent. We are just starting the celebration of the Lenten season. Lent is celebrated by Catholics of all ages. It is celebrated at home, in church and in school. Ask you parents and grandparents about some of the ways they kept Lent when they were young.
Let us help our families make good plans for Lent. Choose actions everyone can do. Our Lenten actions should help us become more prayerful. This will help to make our lives more simple. Do not forget to share with those in need. Our Lenten sacrifices and prayer should help us to think of others.
The memorial of St. Frances of Rome is celebrated on March 9. Saint Frances of Rome had a good husband and three children. Two of her children died and she was very sad. She offered her sorrow to God in prayer. Frances cared for the poor in the worst areas of Rome. She brought food and firewood to help them.
We can all take the good example of the saints to help us Walk by Faith and we can become saints too.
Please pray for the sick, especially Pope Francis, Fr. Mink, Mrs. Miriam Harris, Oliver Conaty, and all the sick of our parish. Please continue to pray for Maureen Engelbert and the Straight family. Pray also pray for our Armed Forces and First Responders.
Reconciliation
Students at St. Ann's will have the opportunity to offer penance through the Sacrament of Reconciliation this Lenten season.
- Grades 2-5: Monday, March 10
- Grades 6-8: Monday, March 17
Stations of the Cross
Students will also pray the Stations of the Cross on alternating weeks from class Masses.
- Grades 2-5: March 18 & April 4
- Grades 6-8: March 11 & 25
- Living Stations of the Cross, Grades 1-8: April 14
Catholic Relief Services - Rice Bowl Challenge
SAS students are invited to contribute to their classroom rice bowls this Lent. This is an optional donation, with cash and coin accepted. Each week, the rice bowl contributions will be counted, and for every $10 contributed to the classroom rice bowl, that class will earn a raffle ticket. Families can make donations online, but only classroom contributions will count toward our school challenge. When the school returns from the Easter holiday, one raffle ticket will be drawn to win a classroom party.
You can learn more about CRS and the work they do around the world here: https://www.crsricebowl.org/.
Did you know that CRS Rice Bowl helps people all over the globe, including here in the USA?
Welcome, New Staff!
Education & Technology Professionals Staff - Meet Mr. Bronman!
Mr. Lucas Ostrowski, CEO of Education & Technology Professionals (ETP), has been lightning-quick in coming up to speed on all things St. Ann's and helping us through our transition in technology staffing. He has hired a day-to-day Technology Coordinator to join his team and take primary responsibility at St. Ann's. Please welcome Mr. Justin Bronman to our staff!
Counseling Staff - Meet Mrs. Deptula!
St. Ann's is committed to educating the whole child, which we hope to further evidence through the addition of a Family Counselor to our Counseling & Wellness Team. Please welcome licensed clinical social worker Mrs. Connie Deptula to our staff! Our full-time school counselor, Miss Blakely, focuses primarily on academic guidance and intervention coordination, social-emotional learning, and crisis intervention, and our part-time school counselor, Sr. Mary Smith, focuses primarily on spiritual well-being. As Family Counselor, Mrs. Deptula will help us to expand support for students, and provide a range of workshops and resources to staff and families.
Both new additions are in place now through the end of the school year.
Home & School Association Notes

- 4th
- 5th
This fundraiser is a crucial part of supporting our HSA, and we truly cannot make it a success without your help. We kindly ask that a parent from the listed grades sign up to be in charge of your class’s basket. Your participation makes a big difference!
Requirements for the baskets:
Each basket must have a theme.
Volunteers must submit the basket inventory on the Google Sheet linked below.
Baskets must be wrapped in cellophane to keep all items securely inside!
We truly appreciate your time, creativity, and generosity.
Please sign up via Google Sheet (or email Pam - contact is below). We ask for parents to sign up by Monday, March 10 so there is enough time to collect funds or supplies to put the baskets together. Pam Koenig will be the chairperson for the baskets this year! Please direct all questions to her at pam_koenig@comcast.net
Student Life Notes
Main Event Fun
All 22 members of the Class of 2025 enjoyed an 8th-grade only outing to Main Event this weekend. We are grateful for time together as a class in this final Trimester at St. Ann School!
8th Graders Are Looking Forward to St. Patrick's Day!
The Class of 2025 is fundraising to support special graduation year activities by celebrating the Feast of St. Patrick with a "Lucky Charms" sale. Students can purchase an Irish treat for their friends, or to take home to family members or for themselves while supplies last.
ROCK YOUR SOCKS!
Celebrate World Down Syndrome Day!
Join us in raising awareness and showing support for individuals with Down syndrome by participating in Rock Your Socks Day!
How It Works:
- Buy a Pair of Socks! We will be selling fun, colorful socks for $2 on March 17, 18, and 19 during school.
- Wear Your Socks on March 20! Show your support by wearing the socks you purchased.
- Want to Wear Your Own Mismatched Socks? You can participate by donating $2 to wear your own crazy, mismatched socks!
Why Socks?
World Down Syndrome Day is on March 21st because individuals with Down syndrome have three copies of the 21st chromosome. Chromosomes look like socks under a microscope, so we wear them to show support and spread awareness!
Thank you for helping us celebrate and make a difference!
