Hispanic Heritage Month
At the close of Hispanic Heritage Month, we reflect on this vibrant culture and the contributions many Hispanic Americans have made to our society and especially our BHS community. We reflect on the influences of many important Hispanic figures such as Sonia Sotomayor, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Cesar Chavez, Frida Kahlo, and Ellen Ochoa, who have shaped American culture through their gifts of leadership.
Our young leaders here at BHS are following in these footsteps as they work to share their love and pride in their Hispanic culture with our BHS community. This month our Latinx Club participated in the Heritage Festival with Gettysburg High School’s club, as well as Salsa on the Square and of course Fiesta Friday! They continue to share the club’s mission of fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of our Latin community, promoting cross-cultural communication, and creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and valued! Big hearts and open minds!

Students who pledged to bully free received an orange bracelet and were put into a drawing for a boo basket and Starbucks gift card.
The Friends of Rachel Club (FOR) is dedicated to helping students recognize the value of their connection to school and strive to create an environment where everyone feels included. We seek ways to reach out to others with respect, kindness, and compassion. The BHS FOR Club meets in the LC every month on the second and fourth Tuesdays. Everyone is welcome!

- Congratulations to Eva Hollabaugh the new 2024 Pennsylvania Apple Queen!!
- Thank you to everyone who helped to make the Fiesta last Friday happen! This was Dr. Swope's first experience with such an event and she loved every minute of it!
- Mr. Schwalm would like to recognize the cross country team (Austin Woltz, Jack Bunting, Drew Kohler, Isabel Mauss, Brandon Millan-Reyes, Rafael Salazar-Angeles, Joy Chapman, Jadon Gageby, Anthony Kane, Jack Kane, and Trevor Keeran) for all their hard work and dedication this season. Besides running really fast, they managed to raise over $300 for the Gettysburg Cancer Center/Satish A Shah Foundation through the efforts with their "Pink Out" run last week. A special thank you to Austin for not only being a great team leader, but also for the great new cross country course that he built for us as his Eagle Scout Project. Finally, a big congratulations to Isabel, Joy, Trevor, Drew, and Brandon on qualifying for districts at the league meet this past Tuesday. It is truly an honor to coach such a great group of kids! Picture attached!
- The Agriculture Program for all their goodies from sandwiches to mums and bbq.
- Gracias to Mrs. Hurda for her kindness in doing the lettering for the Seal of Biliteracy Wall display. Thank you.
- A huge thank you to all the folks who supported our students in our third annual Fiesta Friday! To all the helpers who pitched in to support our kids in sharing their culture with our school community, we are grateful. Thanks to the music makers, and sound fixers, dance instructors, ball and lemon getters, picture takers, kid watchers and all around supporters of our students in all their endeavors! It matters. Big hearts and open-minds! A little feedback from our students: "It shows that Biglerville High school cares about all the different cultures and ethnicities that the students represent." "It brings culture together." "It shapes our school because it gives everyone a taste of the culture of the community." "I feel that it really connects the entire community and I especially saw that when everyone helped clean up the balls after hungry hippos."
- Thank you to the Friends of Rachel Club for sponsoring Unity Day in recognition of Bullying Prevention Month, especially Alicia, Michaela, Calli, Patience, Gia, Elyse, Sarah, and Alyssa for their time and efforts. Over 120 students signed the Anti-Bullying Pledge and received an orange bracelet to show their support. The FOR Club provided delicious treats and coffee for staff this week.
