Hollywood Hill Happenings
May 28th Edition
From the Principal
Hello Hollywood Hill Families,
Supporting our School-Wide PBIS System
We believe in order to meet school-wide behavior standards, students must have a strong understanding of the expectations and what they look like in practice. As a school focused on using Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), we strive to teach, model, cue, and reinforce appropriate behavior in all settings.
To support these efforts we began video Monday Morning Announcements at the end of April to positively reinforce the actions we want students to utilize to show their Star SHINE. Here at Hollywood Hill, this means to:
SHOW
OTHERS YOUR
INDIVIDUAL
POTENTIAL
EVERYDAY
The Monday Morning Announcements include student voice and representation as we review our school-wide expectations, demonstrate our school-wide focus of the week, show progress within our positive reinforcement system through Star Tickets, listen to strategies from our counselor that support students to following expectations, and share student events for the week ahead. Our first school-wide focus was safety on the walkways by walking and keeping hands, feet, and objects to ourself. As a result of students earning Star Tickets from staff and our morning monitors for demonstrating this behavior, students will each receive a popsicle during lunch recess this Friday.
You can support these efforts at home by emphasizing the ways that students are showing their SHINE beyond the classroom as students give their best efforts when engaging in after school activities, when taking on challenges, in trying something new, and sharing kindness at home and around the community. Thank you for your partnership in helping our students understand their capabilities!
New Playground Update
The feedback from students, staff, and families was used to update the plans for our new playground installation. YOU CAN USE THIS LINK TO VIEW A FLYBY PERSPECTIVE OF THESE PLANS.
Kind Regards,

Clothing Donations Needed
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Our school health room is in need of spare clothing, specifically:
- Small and medium-sized girl's pants or leggings
- Small and medium-sized boy's pants or sweatpants
- New underwear - small, medium and large for both girls and boys
These items are essential for students who may need a quick change during the school day. If you have any gently used clothing that your children have outgrown, please consider donating them to the health room. Your generosity helps ensure that all our students are comfortable and ready to learn. Thank you for your support!
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Have a great day!

From our Safety and Emergency Coordinator
The safety and security of all students remains one of our top priorities. Every month we have a drill. This month the emergency drill is Lockdown/Active Threat. This will take place on Wednesday, May 29th at 1:30pm (This is updated from our last newsletter). Below is the drill information.
HOLLYWOOD HILL LOCKDOWN/ACTIVE THREAT DRILL
Purpose
Lockdown is only used when there is an armed intruder on campus or law enforcement instructs us to go into Lockdown due to policy activity in the area. If the school is placed in Lockdown, staff and students will hear: “Lockdown, Lockdown, we are now in Lockdown.” You may hear more descriptive language if they know where the intruder is and what direction they are heading. Remember at Hollywood Hill the library is on the north side of the school.
Staff/Student Involvement
All staff and students and visitors
Lockdown/Drill
· If not in a classroom, students/staff/guests should go directly to the nearest safe location.
· Students at recess need to listen to the recess teachers. They will play the siren from the megaphone. Students will go to the nearest recess teacher. They will give them direction.
· Staff should check hallways and bring anyone in the immediate area into their classroom before locking the door.
· Lock classroom doors and windows and pull shades down immediately. Cover all door glass.
· Keep students away from doors and windows.
· Students should be scattered around the room, not grouped together in one place. They should be hiding.
· Turn off lights!
· Stay quiet!
· Silence cell phones.
· Maintain a calm environment by remaining calm yourself and reassuring students that everything possible is being done to return the situation to normal.
· Remain in secured classrooms until notified.
Post-Drill
Open blinds and doors to normal position.

5TH GRADE PICNIC | THU 6/20 | VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!
It’s almost time for the traditional HHE 5th Grade Picnic @ Cottage Lake Park and many volunteers are needed to help make this a memorable day for our 5th graders!
You don’t have to be a 5th grade parent/guardian to volunteer! In fact, we’d LOVE some 3rd & 4th grade parents/guardians to help so they can see what to do in coming years (but we’ll take any volunteers really, as long as you’ve completed the NSD Level II Volunteer Clearance at https://secure.safevisitor.io/Safe/Volunteer/northshore/level2).
Please take a look at this SIGN UP LINK to see if you are available to help. Thank you for your consideration.
