Empowering All to Become Life Long Learners
Happy Fall in ESD Schools!
Message from Superintendent Woods
Welcome Back to a Promising Year!
Dear Emmett School District Community,
As we embark on this exciting journey through the first quarter of the 2023 school year, I am happy to share some achievements and improvements that we have witnessed in our district. The energy and enthusiasm from our students, teachers, staff, and parents have truly set the stage for a fantastic year ahead.
Enhancing Our Infrastructure
One of the standout accomplishments this year has been our focus on improving our school facilities. Thanks to dedicated efforts from our maintenance team, we've made significant strides in enhancing the physical environment of our schools. These improvements not only make our campuses more welcoming but also create a conducive atmosphere for learning.
New K-12 English Language Arts Curriculum
Another noteworthy milestone is the implementation of our new K-12 English Language Arts curriculum. This curriculum has been carefully designed to empower our students with essential language skills and to foster a love for reading and writing. We believe that this will greatly enrich the educational experience of our students across all grade levels.
Mathematics Improvement
In our unwavering commitment to providing a high-quality education for all students, we have identified areas of focus, particularly in 6th through 8th-grade mathematics. We are working tirelessly to ensure that every student receives the support and resources needed to excel in mathematics. Additional staffing has been hired with the specific goal of supporting students who may be struggling in Mathematics and enriching the learning of our students who excel in mathematics. Our goal is to see improvements across the board, and we are confident that with the dedication of our educators and students, we will achieve it.
Strong Financial Footing
I'm pleased to report that our district is in the best financial situation it has been in recent memory. This fiscal stability allows us to invest in our schools, upgrade our facilities, and provide the best possible education for our students without compromising our long-term financial health. The support of the community in May with the one million dollar annual levy will help ensure our maintenance and staffing needs are adequately met.
Engaging Our Community
Our recently updated website has opened up new avenues for engagement with our community. We encourage parents, students, and patrons to use this platform to share their valuable input and ideas on how we can further improve our schools and our community. Your feedback is invaluable as we strive to create a learning environment that meets the needs and aspirations of everyone involved.
While we have much to celebrate and be thankful for, we recognize that our journey is far from over. We remain committed to providing the best education possible for all students of the Emmett School District. Our teachers, support staff, administration, and parents are working collaboratively to elevate all aspects of education in our district.
I couldn't be prouder of our current accomplishments and the direction in which our district is headed. Together, we will continue to nurture the growth and success of every student in our care.
Thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to the Emmett School District. Let's keep moving forward, hand in hand, toward a brighter future for our students.
Sincerely,
Craig Woods
Superintendent

Homecoming Celebration!
We hosted a fantastic Emmett Homecoming week! Lots of memories were shared and created. If you haven’t had a chance, make sure you check out our Facebook page and the posts from the week of September 18-24. Some of the special highlights of the week were videos from EHS alumni who are now staff at the Emmett School District. We loved hearing as they shared their own high school Homecoming memories.
To celebrate, we made a montage video of the memories made this year for Homecoming 2023. Make sure you watch it with the sound on! You can view the video on Facebook or on the News page of our website.

We have fantastic news to share, and it's a game-changer for our community!
A Big Decision: During the October 10 regular school board meeting, the board gave the green light on a project that will bring new ADA-compliant bleachers to our high school, making it possible for our graduation ceremonies to return to Emmett!
Overcoming Challenges: For many years, we've held graduation "over the hill" due to the lack of suitable facilities for such a significant event. If you've attended a football game, you're aware of the aging condition of our current bleachers and the safety concerns they pose.
Generous Donation: This project is made possible through an amazing, generous donation of $100,000 from an anonymous individual, made in honor of the Class of 2005. This money was donated for the purpose of updating the bleachers and bringing graduation back to Emmett. The school board has voted to cover the remaining amount for the project (up to $190,000) with school district funds.
Benefits to All: Our new bleachers will meet ADA compliance, making our facilities accessible to all. Whereas our old bleachers were long designated as condemned, the new bleachers will increase capacity and meet safety standards, providing a safe venue for events, preventing us from navigating the less-than-ideal logistics of graduation elsewhere, and positively impacting commerce in our community. Our anonymous benefactor wants to see Emmett celebrate graduation in a way that allows our local schools, businesses, and the whole community to benefit from that celebration.
Please Note: Though funds were approved for this project tonight, the official vote to hold graduation in Emmett, as intended by the donation, will come at the November regular school board meeting.
Welcome Home: We'd like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our anonymous donor whose contribution has played a vital role in making this possible. We are so excited to invite our community to a safe place for graduation and other future events at HOME!
New Website!
Months of hard work have culminated in the launch of our brand-new Emmett School District website! We are so proud of the result!
What's New? We've focused on making the new website user-friendly and easy to navigate, providing better access to vital information.
Your Input Matters: While we've worked tirelessly to make everything perfect, websites are always evolving. If you notice any links or details that need adjustment, please don't hesitate to let us know. We value your feedback and are open to any suggestions you may have. After all, it's a work in progress, and we're excited about the results so far!
Introducing Feedback Options: One of the exciting features is the feedback option. You'll find a "Feedback" icon on the district homepage and on every school page. This leads to a simple feedback form where you can share positive shout-outs, comments, concerns, suggestions, or even report bullying. This tool is open to students, parents, and all community members. You can choose to remain anonymous or request contact regarding your feedback. The feedback forms are also accessible through a link in the footer of every page. We hope this feedback option will enhance communication within our community.
Explore the New Website: Please take a few minutes to explore the site and discover all it has to offer. Let us know what you think!
Idaho Report Card!
The new Idaho Report Card for schools and districts was recently released. We were thrilled to find out that two of our schools are rated as Top Performers–meaning they are recognized as ranking in the top 10th percentile or above on key performance indicators! We’d like to extend a big shout-out to Carberry Elementary and Sweet Montour Elementary for being recognized as Top Performers!
Two of our other schools were recognized as Goal Makers. This means that they met the annual interim progress target. Congratulations to Emmett High School and Butte View Elementary!
We’re so proud of these recognitions and the hard work they represent for our students and staff!
The Idaho Report Card recognition can be viewed at this link, along with many other details about our district and individual school achievement.
Continuous Improvement...
The Idaho Report Card also highlighted some areas that we had already previously identified as needing improvement. A big part of our work as a school district involves identifying areas that need improvement, especially when it comes to education. Our Math scores at the middle school indicated that growth was necessary, and the school and the district have been working hard to find solutions that will empower our students to learn and excel.
Familiar Faces: To tackle this challenge, we've enlisted the help of two exceptional retired teachers—Carole Harshman and Theresa Giery. They bring a wealth of experience to the table and are solely focused on Math intervention.
Targeted Support: In this program, students are identified and placed in small group settings where they receive specialized Math instruction. This effort is in addition to the "What I Need" Math time that all our middle school students benefit from.
A Bright Future: We're excited about these initiatives and remain committed to working tirelessly to pinpoint and enhance educational success for our students. Hopefully, the results will reinforce our work as we continue to improve!
Maintenance Updates!
Our Maintenance Department has been working hard! One of the features of our new website is that now you can view monthly updates from each school and department. You can see what projects have been completed and what each department is working on. To see all Department Updates, click HERE.
We are so happy to report that this month, for the first time this school year, ALL EMS restrooms were open and available for students!
Behind the Scenes: As many of you are aware, upon completion of the downstairs restrooms remodel, unexpected leaks and plumbing challenges were discovered in the upstairs facilities. Addressing these issues required extensive repairs, and with the age of our building, it was no small task!
A Huge Thank You: We want to give a big shout-out to Wright Brothers Construction for their outstanding work on this project. They took on a challenging project and have gone above and beyond to ensure our students have safe and functional restroom facilities.
Not Remodel: But...: While the upstairs restrooms may not have received a full makeover like the beautiful ones downstairs, the repairs are now complete and available for our students to use!
Remember to check out our Department Updates for more information on past and upcoming projects and events!
Transparency and Levy Funds
2023 Levy reporting available!
Did you know that our new website also allows you access to a monthly report of levy accounting? ESD is working to provide open transparency with the public regarding the funds allocated from the May 2023 Supplemental Levy. In each monthly budget report, a section is assigned for levy reporting. In the report from the October regular school board meeting, the levy accounting is located on page 26 at the link below. In the report, you can see exactly what levy funds were received and how they were spent.
Please Note: the numbers are continuously running and not project totals. For instance, some of the funds from projects completed during the summer, such as the Carberry roof, are just now being shown as released as of the October meeting. This detailed report can always be viewed attached to the agenda for a regular school board meeting.
