Dear Parents:
What we are actually doing is multifaceted. First, we are creating a collaborative environment. We want our students to be comfortable asking each other for help instead of always going to the teacher. Second, we are developing self-reliance. Besides the teacher, what are other resources you might be able to use? Your interactive notebook, your past homework, the book, a peer? Finally, we want our RedHawks to struggle. We want them to be frustrated, to have to experience "productive struggle" and to make multiple attempts on their own before using other resources.
Along with building skills and developing knowledge, we also want to give kids the opportunity for success, struggle, and failure. We want our students to learn to be self-reliant and not always rely on the teacher for an answer. We want them to learn to support each other or to rescue themselves when they are stuck. And the teacher will certainly step-in when it is appropriate.
Teaching is a complex task and there is no one perfect way to teach. But we do know that we want our kids to become independent learners who are thoughtful, resourceful, and self-reliant.
Enjoy your weekend!

Kane County Judges to Visit Monday!
On the subject of safety, next Monday all sixth, seventh and eighth grade students with be provided with the opportunity to participate in the Kane County Judges presentation on digital safety. Judge Clint Hull and Judge Elizabeth Flood will visit Wredling to shared their courtroom experiences with our RedHawks. The goal of their presentation is to educate students about the use of social media and electronics with the hopes of preventing them from using it in a way that requires them to appear in Court. “I have seen the devastating results that can occur as a result of one bad decision of a young person.” says Judge Clint Hull. “If we can get these students to think, ‘Wow, that could happen to me’ or ‘I didn’t realize that could really happen because of just forwarding a picture or a text’ then we have begun to make at least a dent in the way young people communicate today."
Kane County Judges have presented “Worries of the World Wide Web” over 50 times to schools throughout Kane County speaking to over 10,000 students over the past four years. The IJA launched the statewide program in January of 2017. For further information about the program, write the Illinois Judges Association at 321 S. Plymouth Court, Chicago, IL 60604, call (312) 431-1283 or email the association at info@ija.org.

Dear RedHawk Parents:
Each year we ask for your input about how our schools are doing. This year, with a big transition, I would really like your feedback. Can you please take a few minutes to complete the survey?
This anonymous survey takes about 10 minutes to complete and is available by clicking here. This link will take you to the middle school survey. You can find the other surveys, in both English and Spanish by going to district.d303.org.
I appreciate your input and feedback!
Thanks!
Tim
P.S. These surveys are only open until December 13th.
The Rise Program and Be Kind for 25!
Our RISE students continued their mission, showing act of kindness throughout the week. We can all do some of the same things they did and help "spread kindness" throughout our community. Their enthusiasm has been infectious and we have seen lots of smiles around the halls of Wredling! Here's what they were up to each day:
- Monday - They wrote letters to others and sent them in the mail for a fun, surprise note.
- Tuesday - They went out of their way to say nice things to others.
- Wednesday - They gave "High Fives" to others in the hall and in class!
- Thursday - They helped complete some jobs around the building today. What a nice thing to do for our Wredling community! What jobs can YOU do at school, home or elsewhere to help out and show kindness.
- Friday - We collected items (toys, books, clothing) that people no longer needed and donated them so others could use them. Our donations will be donated to Goodwill today!
Our campaign of Be Kind for 25 continues! If your child has a kindness story to share, please contact Stephanie Casey.
Thank you!
Why was my child's name not PUBLISHED in the Honor Roll when they earned it?
"The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), a federal law, allows St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 to disclose appropriately designated “directory information” without written consent. The primary purpose of directory information is to allow the District to include this type of information from your child’s education records in certain school publications. Examples include:
- A playbill, showing your student’s role in a drama or musical production
- The annual yearbook
- Honor roll or other recognition lists
- Graduation programs
- Sports rosters
- Student directories"
If you would like to change your current settings, please login to Home Access Center and update the FERPA disclosure selections for each of your children. If you indicate the School District may not release this information, it will apply to all publications and communications.
If you do not have access to the internet, please contact the office to update this information.
REMINDER:
We are continuing to have some students ordering food to be delivered to school. This is fine for home, but NOT for school. Please talk to your RedHawk about not having food delivered to school if this is their issue. If parents want to drop-off food for their child, not a group, that is certainly welcome!
We no longer accept food delivery items in the office. This policy was announced on October 27th and will be followed by our office staff. For example: If a Jimmy Johns delivery person shows up with an order for a student, the order will not be accepted.
Thank you for your help in making students understand this policy.
