Time Capsule Reveal at Magnolia
Magnolia Elementary recently held a Time Capsule Reveal Ceremony honoring the 2017 fifth grade class of Magnolia. The time capsule was created and buried May 25, 2017, and was opened April 29, 2024. The following individuals served as honored speakers during the ceremony: Dr. Patrick Martin, Superintendent of Trussville City Schools; Mrs. Jackie Moore, retired fifth grade teacher; and Dr. Phyllis Faust, Principal of Magnolia. According to Dr. Faust, a large root wrapped around the time capsule during the 8 years it was buried underground. Dr. Faust compared the relationship between Magnolia and these graduating seniors to this root, for, like a root supports a tree, Magnolia helped form a foundation for these students, supporting them in their future educational endeavors. The time capsule was unearthed by Mrs. Moore, Dr. Martin, Mrs. Summers, Mrs. Hook, and several of Magnolia's former fifth graders. Then, the time capsule was rolled into the gymnasium where it was opened, and the treasures were spread out for everyone to enjoy. Students and families enjoyed looking through the contents as they remembered their fifth-grade year at Magnolia, the year the school opened. Some of the memorabilia inside the time capsule included the following: a fidget spinner, a 2017 yearbook, a list of popular movies, All about Me pages created by the fifth graders of 2017, t-shirts from Magnolia's fun runs, and even a Kindle! The contents of the time capsule are currently on display in the entryway of Magnolia.

Cahaba Third Graders Experience the Museum of Flight!
Third-grade students from Cahaba Elementary recently embarked on an educational field trip to The Southern Museum of Flight, aimed at reinforcing their understanding of scientific principles related to force and motion.
The itinerary included:
Guided Tour: Students received a guided tour of the museum's exhibits, featuring a diverse collection of historical artifacts and aircraft.
Flight Lab Simulation: Engaging in a flight lab simulation, students learned about aerodynamics and lift while using technology to experience what it is like to fly!
Hands-On Activity: Students constructed paper flying machines, applying concepts learned about lift. They loved testing these in competitive events.
Scavenger Hunt: The expedition concluded with a scavenger hunt, encouraging students to explore the museum's exhibits while seeking out specific items.
Additionally, students enjoyed lunch amidst the museum's aircraft on a sunny day. The field trip provided students with a practical and interactive experience, reinforcing their classroom learning and fostering an appreciation for science and aviation.
HTHS Engineering Academy Success
On April 15th and 16th, the HTHS Engineering Academy Senior Design team consisting of Jacob Mullinax, Sam Brooks, and Elliott Greene were selected to present their senior design project at Space Center Houston. The team utilized the engineering design process to develop a working prototype that is capable of delivering a medical IV in the micro gravity environment of space. Their design consisted of a centrifuge to remove the air from the IV solution and a piston pump that would monitor the flow rate to provide the correct amount of the saline solution to the patient.
On April 17th, the HTHS Engineering Academy competed in the Technology Student Association drone competition in Montgomery. Students had to build a drone that could pick up bean bags and rings, take them through an obstacle course, and deliver them safely to a bucket and traffic cone. Some amazing flying happened on this day. The team of Joel Himes, Nico Sugita, Luke Phillips, and Philip Gentry placed 1st and 2nd in the state competition.
