From the Spartan Wellspace - Goal Setting
Happy winter break Spartans!
As we go into the New Year, I want to encourage you to set a new year’s resolution. My hope is that you create a goal that is important and it’s one that you are dedicated to working towards. To set the goal I encourage you to use the SMART Goal format. Below I have attached a worksheet for you to do so. When you have the chance, please take some time to set the goal and take it seriously. Remember it should be obtainable and important. I hope that you share your goals with me and please let me know if there’s anything I can do to help you reach them!
Best Wishes,
Ms. Frankie

Malia Holmes-Physiology Teacher & Head Athletic Trainer
Written by Mari Mendoza
Malia Holmes, the Marine Biology and Physiology teacher at VP, wears multiple hats as the Head Athletic Trainer, infusing her diverse background into both fields. A graduate of Hawaii School for Girls, Mrs. Holmes’s high school years were marked by active participation in volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, and choir. She pursued her education at Oregon State University and California State University, Fullerton, majoring in Kinesiology with an emphasis in athletic training, followed by a master's degree in Coaching and Exercise Science from Concordia University. During her college years, Mrs. Holmes served as a student athletic trainer for four years, gaining experience with various sports. Before joining VP in 1991, she worked as a physical therapy aide. Her tenure at Villa Park commenced as the athletic trainer, a role she seamlessly combined with teaching Marine Biology and Physiology. Mrs. Holmes cherishes numerous memorable moments at VP, including CIF victories in basketball, football, and water polo, as well as the pride of seeing the baseball team reach the CIF finals at Dodger Stadium. A testament to her commitment, Mrs. Holmes favorite memories also include being thrown into the pool during the water polo CIF win and the honor of calling names at graduation. Beyond her professional achievements, Mrs. Holmes is known for her remarkable running streak, having run every day for over a year, along with completing two half marathons.
