MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Greetings MVCSD Community,
For National School Psychology Week, we are highlighting our hard-working school psychologists, who serve an important role in all of our schools. Specifically, I would like to highlight Dr. Annette Parchment-Pennant, who has worked in the District for 27 years. She has been a school psychologist at MVHS since 2000, and she has impacted the lives of so many students since that time. She is retiring at the end of the school year, and she deserves so much recognition for all she has done in her career here. Thank you, Dr. Parchment-Pennant! I know the students you have worked with appreciate you as well. And thank you to all of our school psychologists for the important work you do!
Visit our website to learn more about the building reorganization process. Thank you to everyone who has applied to join a subcommittee. We will work closely with the community to ensure that we make the right decisions for our scholars.
We are continuing our series highlighting Mount Vernon STEAM Academy’s academic success with a look into one of Ana Rodriguez’s engineering classes. She has been working with students to create simple machines, and they are clearly having an exciting time being creative while learning about scientific and engineering concepts. When we make learning fun and go back to the basics, this is what makes it possible for us to move forward to mastery.
Students at Grimes School and Nelson Mandela/Dr. Hosea Zollicoffer School were treated to fun, musical assemblies last week. Many of our students have great interest in the arts, and The Music Team came to these schools to teach students more about music production. They showed students DJ equipment and got them excited about learning different instruments. I hope that these assemblies sparked an even greater interest in music.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. K. Veronica Smith
Acting Superintendent of Schools
