Headteacher's Message
Dear Families
What a busy and productive week we’ve had as we head into the Easter break!
This week saw our Year 11 Virtual Parents’ Evening, a valuable opportunity for families and teachers to discuss the progress of students as we head into their final term and exam period. At the same time, our Year 10 and Year 12 students have now completed their mock exams, a huge well done to all involved for their focus and resilience during this intense period.
Over the break, we’ll be running revision sessions for Year 11 to help them prepare for upcoming exams. Details have been sent home, and a sign-up link is available in the letter you will have received. We hope to see many students making the most of this opportunity.
Yesterday saw a great mix of fun and fundraising as Year 11 students hosted a ‘Soak the Teacher’ event to raise money for their prom. It was brilliant to see staff and students enjoying the afternoon while raising around £200 for a well-deserved celebration.
Today, we were delighted to welcome Homerton College, University of Cambridge, who visited our Year 11 students to speak about future pathways. The feedback we received was outstanding: “I’ve spoken to students from 10 different schools across West London this week, and your Year 11s were some of the most engaged, well-behaved and attentive. Well done to them and best of luck with their A-Levels and university applications!” A fantastic endorsement – well done Year 11!
In other exciting news, our Year 7 boys’ rugby team have had a phenomenal season, entering and winning every 7s tournament they’ve taken part in this year. Congratulations, boys – an incredible achievement! Likewise, our Year 7 netball team have won every single match this season, ultimately taking home the local schools Plate. Not to be outdone, our Year 8 netball team have also had a brilliant run, winning all but one of their matches this season. Yesterday, our Year 9 & 10 girls football team won the Borough Futsal Competition putting them through to the London Youth Games to represent the Richmond Borough. We have competed in 49 fixtures across various sports this year and have won an incredible 60% of them. A huge well done to all our athletes, we’re incredibly proud of you.
After the Easter break, students must return in full and correct uniform. This includes proper trousers or skirts and appropriate footwear. Any student arriving in incorrect uniform will be sent home to change. We appreciate your support in upholding our standards.
Looking ahead, we have our upcoming PTA Plant Sale on Saturday 26 April from 10:00–12:00. There will be plants for sale, local business market stalls, drinks, home-baked treats and live music – a fantastic community event for all ages. Everyone is welcome, we hope to see you there!
Finally, I’d like to wish all of our families a restful and enjoyable Easter break. We return to school on Tuesday 22 April, with a prompt 08:30 start. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for the term ahead.
Have a lovely break.
Kind regards
Mr P Grills

The Impact of Mobile Phones on Children's Mental Health
In today’s digital world, mobile phones are a central part of children’s lives. While they can be a fantastic tool for learning and connection, there is growing evidence that excessive screen time, exposure to harmful content, and online interactions can negatively affect young people’s mental health.
From disrupted sleep to increased anxiety and low self-esteem, many of the issues we see in school are linked to what children are accessing on their phones, and who they’re speaking to. It’s vital that parents and carers stay informed and involved in their child’s digital life. This doesn’t mean reading every message, but it does mean having regular, open conversations about online safety, setting boundaries, and making sure children feel they can come to you if something doesn’t feel right.
If you’re unsure where to start, the following websites offer excellent guidance:
- Teaching Your Child about Internet & Online Safety | NSPCC
- Parents: Supporting Young People Online (Leaflets) | Childnet
- Online safety advice by age | Internet Matters
- Parents Mental Health Support | Advice for Your Child | YoungMinds
Together, we can help our children enjoy the benefits of technology while protecting their mental and emotional wellbeing.
Our 'Neighbourhood News' bulletin is made up of local opportunities for students and families and is updated regularly.
