Principal's Message
Thomas Families,
Every fall, the state of Ohio releases local school report cards for each school building and school district. These report cards measure achievement on state tests, student growth on tests from year to year, the progress of at-risk subgroups, and early literacy measures, to highlight a few sections. Based on their performance, schools are given a rating between one and five stars.
I am so proud to announce…Thomas Elementary earned FIVE STARS on the state report card this year!
This is a reflection of the hard work of kids, teachers, and families. You can check out more detailed information by following this link.
Of course, standardized testing is not the only thing that matters within our four walls. Not reflected in that five star rating is our care and regard for students, the benefits of our culturally diverse school population, and the way our families gather as a community. Those things are also very important to us…but it sure feels good to get acknowledged for our academic excellence, too!
Go Tigers,
Melissa Garris

FALL MAP STUDENT DATA
The MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) assessments give us the ability to measure student achievement and academic growth across time. Students participate in the MAP Reading and MAP Math assessments during designated benchmark windows throughout the year (Reading: Grades 2-8, Math: Grades 1-8).
The MAP 2-5 and MAP 6+ assessments allow us to identify students as gifted in the areas of math and/or reading. MAP scores in the 95th - 99th percentile meet the Ohio Department of Education requirements for gifted identification. Students scoring in the range for a gifted identification on the MAP assessment will be supported in their regular classroom setting through high-quality, differentiated instruction.
MAP results are now visible to parents in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Please follow the steps below to find your child's Fall MAP results. Additional information about MAP can be found here.
