KMS Friday Principal's Press

Friday, January 10, 2025
Happy Friday and Happy 2025! Here is some important information from KMS:
Principal's Advisories To Kick Off The Year
On Tuesday, January 7th, principals held grade-level advisories with all KMS students in the gymnasium to set a positive tone for 2025, motivate students to work to their potential, and reinforce academic and behavioral expectations. We encourage parents and guardians to review our presentation below. It all boils down to two simple expectations. At all times and in all contexts, as ask our students show their Kennett PRIDE by Working Hard and Being Kind. If we can call consistently do those two things, we are well on our way to success.
KCSD Chromebook Protection Plan for $50
In 2025, technology plays an important role in your child's learning. Protect your student's district issued learning device with our comprehensive Chromebook Protection Plan, designed to shield families from unexpected repair costs. Our affordable coverage ensures that accidental damage, drops, spills, and screen cracks won't interrupt your child's education or create financial stress. This $50 plan provides 100% coverage for repairs or replacement of the Chromebook that would otherwise be the responsibility of the student and/or parent/legal guardian.
KMS PTO Needs Help with BoBB
The KMS Bottom of the Book Bag (BoBB) Newsletter is a publication of the KMS PTO and not a publication of Kennett Middle School or the Kennett Consolidated School District. Community items are not sponsored, endorsed, nor vetted by the School District and/or PTO, and their inclusion in the BoBB is not an endorsement.
We need help! If anyone is interested in being the individual who writes and shares the BoBB, please contact Kelly Figueroa kfigueroa@kcsd.org.
Next Month...It's Time to Party! KMS is having a Glow Dance!
Dr. Rizzo Saunders Presentation to Families Monday, 1/13, at 7:00 PM
Dr. Kimberly Rizzo-Saunders cordially invites community members to attend the KCSD School Board meeting on Monday, January 13th at 7:00 PM, where she will introduce the district's Strategic Plan Process and what she's learned through receiving extensive community input via surveys and focus groups. The presentation will touch upon critical areas, including curriculum development, instructional approaches, assessment methodologies, student support services, facilities management, financial planning, operational efficiency, and technological integration. Attendees can participate either in-person at the Mary D. Lang Kindergarten Center library or virtually through a livestream link available on the district's website.
Benchmarking Updates
Your children did a wonderful job on their Aimsweb (English Language Arts) benchmark exam this week. Next week, we will complete Mathematics benchmarks. Please ensure your child brings their KCSD issued chromebook to school fully charged with their headphones.
Benchmark exams are highly important for several reasons.
- They are informative for teachers to identify strengths and weaknesses among students based on learning standards.
- They provide evidence of growth.
- KMS course placement is a data driven process, and benchmark scores help us determine which students are best suited for the demands of honors courses.
We remind students that there is no need to stress over their performance. The expectation is simple - just do your best.

A Face To Get To Know Better:
Meet Maria Arango! Maria is a dedicated local employee who has been an integral part of the Kennett community through her diverse roles in education. She began her journey in 2020 by driving school buses for Krapf (KMS and New Garden routes), demonstrating her commitment to student transportation. In 2021, she expanded her contributions by joining the KMS cafeteria staff. This year, she transitioned to a personal care assistant position at KMS, continuing her direct support of students. What makes her role particularly meaningful is her deep connection to the area - she works in the same community where she grew up, allowing her to be close to her children. Outside of work, finds joy in reading and spending quality time with her three sons, aged 8, 13, and 18, with two of her boys actively involved in scouts. When she's not working or engaging with her family, she enjoys the companionship of her two dogs, embodying the spirit of a community-focused professional and engaged parent. Thank you for everything, Maria!
