Hello Woodsy Owls,
Every child, every day is finding a way to feel connected;
Every child, every day knows they have a champion they can turn to; and
Every child, every day is being challenged with new learnings and experiences.
Hello Woodsy Owls,
What a great start to the year we are having. I am so happy with the fabulous behavior the students are demonstrating and the wonderful support SHS is receiving from our families and community. It is beyond belief.
On Friday we reviewed the basic rules for the Bathrooms, Cafeteria, Kiss & Drop, and Office. It was amazing how many of the students knew these so very well. Remember to sign your student's PBIS Rule Passport and send back on Wednesday so he or she can be rewarded with two Hoot Loot. (This is the school currency we use to reward good behavior.)The Hoot Loot store is going to be opening soon, and students will be able to start spending their hard earned cash.
I would like to introduce you to the newest tool that we are utilizing at SHS. RAPTOR: Integrated School Safety Software. In a world where children are so vulnerable, anything we can do to increase their safety is something we have a moral imperative to do. While Meadow Vista and its surrounding areas are a tight knit community, we don't know everyone, and we need to make sure that only people who are safe people have access to our school campus. This is why we are now using State and Federal ID's to register all visitors in to our campus. The ID must only be provided once, and then the system will recognize who you are. In the words directly from the RAPTOR website:
- Raptor VisitorSafe adopts technologies from highly secure industries such as banking and finance to authenticate a visitor's identity.
- By digitally verifying that the visitor and the person on the ID document are the same, building administrators gain a higher degree of confidence that their staff and students are safe.
- Additionally, each visitor is automatically screened against two database types:
- The registered sex offender databases that Raptor maintains and keeps up to date for all 50 U.S. states and territories
- Any number of customized databases created by each school or District. This can include banned/restricted visitors, custody issues, individuals with restraining orders, and more.
- A match against any database instantly alerts the attendant and any number of additional staff for prompt attention and resolution.
Thank-you for your patience as we learn this system and work to make SHS even safer than it already is.

Sierra Hills Elementary School September Menus
Please remember to let your little know what is on the menu. Sometimes, they change their mind when they get to school and find out that they really love or don't really like what the daily offering is.
As always, in California these meals are free to all students.
