Published piece of writing
In the weekend I went in to town. When I got to town, Sophie, Mum and I went to Rebel sport. "Sophie" I said, "your feet are mum's size, WOW!". So we had a look at the womens shoes. We found some black converse shoes. "They look cool". I said After Sophie's shoes, we looked in kids sizes. I found some white Nikes, they had the tick on both of the sides. I said "Mum, these are perfect". So we went to pay. We went to the car and Mum drove us to the Warehouse. We went to the girls isle. I found a long sleeve tee shirt. Then I found a Beanie. My tee shirt was green and it said "Let your mind go wild" The beanie was black and the pom poms were too. I loved it, I found a push pop, then we paid. " I had so much fun shopping with you Mum and Sophie" I said, so we went home.

The Great Realisation
Bullying Free Week
I was speaking with a group of Year 7 & 8 students this morning, sharing a study undertaken in Rotorua, where 500 students of various ages had been survey. Of the 500, 100 students had experienced online bullying and out of those 100, one of the students had taken their own life.
We ALL have a responsibility to report any online bullying to Netsafe. I spoke with the group and said, they MUST exit group chats where mean or repeated online bullying is happening, then they must report this to their parents. Parents, I urge you to report this through to Netsafe as there are actions they can take to block the accounts of users. Please be aware that many of the social media platforms, you as parents are allowing your children to use, have age restrictions. If you as parents are allowing these platforms to be used, then please make sure you are monitoring your child's usage and content. If you as parents are not monitoring, advising and responding through the Netsafe channels, then the ripple effect becomes evident at school. While our job is to educate children in many and varied areas, precious time is taken up sometimes, sorting issues that you as parents have better control to do so.
We are strengthening our processes and e-learning systems to provide enhanced security as a school with the use of our chromebooks, ipads and BYOD devices. We do NOT allow phones in class at all. ALL phones are to be handed into the office in the morning before school and then they are collected at the end of the day as phones are NOT considered appropriate learning devices here at Inglewood Primary School.
From the Board of Trustees
Our Property Team are currently working on the draft 10 Year Property Plan. We will be able to share some exciting news around forth coming projects after July 1.
REACH Team requests.
Our team of student REACH Leaders proposed purchasing two new buddy benches and implementing a token system for recognising students demonstrating the REACH Values within the playground. The Board Of Trustees approved $3000.00 toward the funding of these projects. REACH Leaders will present to the Board at the next BoT meeting how the token system trial is going. - Well done kids.
E-Learning
Classrooms
Our e-learning leaders and teams submitted a proposal to the BoT with regard to increasing the numbers of Chromebooks and Ipads. We are just waiting on a couple of quotes and then we will share the final decision.
Special Education Needs
As a Board we are able to support our SENCO's with their application of funding for devices for our more diverse and complex needs students. You may be aware there are many forms and applications which SENCo's are regularly applying for funding to support our learners, however sometime these are unsuccessful however there is still the need for the digital application to progress achievement in engagement and application of learning.
Herbert Trust
Inglewood Primary School Radio Station. Mr Philllip Reade submitted an application for financial support for an initiative to start up a radio station run by our students here at IPS. Mr Reade expressed an opportunity to add to our school community engagement. The Radio Station is a way to communicate to our parents and whanau. We can set up student / class DJ rosters where children can take turns being the DJ. They can read their stories, books, tell jokes, share school notices, promote school and community events. The Radio would also be able to play music as well (just like the real thing). The idea is that the low power frequency that is used to transmit over would be accessible to the community within a small radius of the school. (i.e. 1-2kms) This would mean that parents, whanau and community members could tune into the school station while driving to work, or eating their breakfast.
This idea would allow students to explore something new that they may have a love for and / or a talent for. It creates a real pride in IPS.
The Board of Trustees received a generous donation from Keith and Sonja Herbert recently of $4,000.00. This money along with a further $3,000 has been granted to the above project as proposed by Mr Reade. We as a Board of very grateful to both Keith and Sonja Herbert for their generous donation from a trust they set up after their son Iain passed away as a student here in 2006. Iain was very much an 'out of the box ' thinker and we believe he would have enjoyed having the opportunity to develop a radio station here at IPS, benefitting all involved.
Staff Scholarship:
Our BoT offers a Staff Scholarship fund for all staff to try new initiatives and or attend professional development. This year the BoT was inundated with applications from all teams here at IPS.
Mrs Debbie Carter and Mrs Mia Midgley were awarded to the scholarship to attend an Administrators Conference in Wellington 19 August 2021. Very rarely do opportunities come up where our Admin staff can strengthen their skills in the varying jobs they are required to do. The Board was very pleased to offer both Debbie and Mia this opportunity.
Most of the teaching team had applied to strengthen their knowledge and understanding of Collaborative Teaching and Learning pedagogy, systems and processes. Part of the application was to visit other schools. With a solution focus in mind, the BoT approved the combining of the two well being collective days, afforded to teachers under the MoE and NZEI collective. On these days 30 and 31 August the teaching team will be involved in professional development, so the school will be closed for students. Please mark this on your calendar. We chose this date as this is in Term 3 and there are NO long weekends within the 10 week term. Please note there always were going to be two staff only days, all we have done is combine them together to have less disruption for parents.
Whanau Hui - Wednesday 26 May @ Inglewood High School Wharenui
Update on our Marae renovation.
Tēnā koutou Ngāti Kohangamoa me ngā āhuatanga o te wā. We are on the final stages to complete our mārae renovations and it's looking really flash. Have a browse over these pictures and be mindful that the project is in the process of being fully finished.
"Clelands Construction has been contracted by Te Ātiawa to complete work at its five marae – Kairau, Katere ki te Moana, Muru Raupatu, Otaraua, Owae, and at Te Kohanga Moa.
Clelands is also working with Ngāti Maru on the upgrade of Te Upoko o Te Whenua marae.
Ānaru White, of Te Ātiawa, said the funding was a boost for marae to complete a number of renovation projects.
“The marae are excited by the work completed so far and have plans to further enhance them for the future,” he said.
“Whānau are seeing progress and the work being done builds on from their tireless support over the years.” Daily News Feb 27 2021
