CROSS COUNTRY RACE AT FAIRFIELD
Last Friday, October 6th, the team traveled to Fairfield Center School for a race with teams from SATEC, Georgia, Sheldon and Fairfield. It was cool, breezy and overcast -great conditions for running. Link to 62 Pictures.
CLASSROOM GROUPS FROM TEAM USA CUT BACK PLANTS IN SOME OF THE GARDEN BEDS
Mr. Rouleau showed students how to trim back the Hasta plants around the building. This task cleared away plant material that would get in the way of new growth this coming spring. Hasta's are perennial plants that can tolerate our winters and grow back from their roots. The leaves and stalks from the plants were hauled away in a cart to a compost pile nearby the vegetable gardens. Link to 23 Pictures.
USA 8TH GRADERS IN THE LIBRARY
Ms. Bogart and Ms. Levine have been boosting interest in reading among the USA students by adding once a week visits to the library. This Monday, Ms. Levine showed students how to locate a resource site she assembled to celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day. She also showed them how to search our library's online catalog for books that may be of interest to them. Link to 14 Pictures.
APPLE COLLECTING FOR CIDER
On Friday, October 6th, four students from Team Triumph travelled with Mr. Deslauriers to collect donated apples from Shelburne orchards. The purpose was to gather enough apples so that the youngest St. Albans City School children could experience cider making this week. Link to 15 Pictures.
CIDER MAKING
Each year in the fall, Mr. Deslaurier and Mr. Hoben bring out the School's cider press to introduce our youngest students to the process of making apple cider. This week, they made cider on Monday the 9th and will do so again on the 10th. Here are a few pictures of what that looked like from Ms. Dupont's and Ms. Emmons' classroom groups. 10-9-2023. BIKING FRIDAYS IN OCTOBER (FROM HOUGHTON PARK TO SCHOOL)
“It’s not about what it is, it’s about what it can become.”
— The Lorax
Greetings from the Climate Committee! We are announcing Biking Fridays from Houghton Park during the month of October! If you don’t have a bike, walking is an option although bikers and walkers will not be kept together while getting to school.
Meet up at Houghton Park earliest at 6:50 and leaving at 7:00.
We are doing this because if you walk, bike, or carpool to school, it lessens air pollution and hopefully our actions will slow global warming.
Thank you for reading, biking and walking!
