Ministry Spotlight: Bereavement Meals and "Chili on the Ready"

"Greetings! I know some of you are wondering what the fabulous cooks of our church are doing. I am here to report about two of the avenues we are taking. First, Fincastle has a tradition of providing meals for bereaved families. Sometime this is a full meal provided to the home or served at church and sometimes it is snack type refreshments served at church before or after the service. We currently have a list of those participating . Please contact Lynne Lewellen if you would like join us in this bereavement ministry.
Secondly, we are starting a “chili on the ready” program. I have participated in this before and it works well. There is a recipe for a very simple chili. Make a batch, zip lock freeze with the date and put into Fincastle freezer. We can then pull as many as we need to make chili, nachos, baked potato bar, etc. We can add beans or more spices according to how we will use it. We will be “on the ready” to feed hungry people, pulling only the number of zip locks we need. I will have printed copies available at the church.
