How to use the Grid Method with a Drawing of Chuck Close as an Example
SKETCHBOOK ASSIGNMENT DUE 1/11
If you can print this at home on a color printer it would help SO MUCH. If not, you can email your photo to me and I can print it. If you do not have access to a device to photograph yourself please let me know and we can do this during class on Monday.
- Take a square format selfie, edit contrast and saturation as you would like (no silly filters)
- Put this photo in a word document and make sure it is 5x5 inches
- Print and bring to class
Grid drawing will work as a method to enlarge an image as well. We will be going from 1 inch squares to 2 inch squares.
5x5 inch square self portrait
Print your chosen head shot as a 5x5 image. If you put the image in word you can drag the picture and enlarge it and it will show you the measurements. You can print it a little larger than 5, like 5.10 to make sure your borders are big enough.
We will then measure 1 inch squares over our photo...carefully.
For our final paper you will be making a 10x10 drawing. Your paper will be 11x11 so you can have a 1 inch guideline.
Box by Box
We will then move box by box to enlarge our self portrait. We will start in pencil and end in colored pencil.
