MHS Community Update - August 30th
Important information and all things MHS.
Hello all,
This year has started great, and the fall is rocking and rolling already. We have had fabulous events here on campus, ranging from Meet the Bears to the Short and Sweet Choir introduction. Many parent meetings have taken place, and the creation and participation of student-led clubs and organizations have begun. THE Montgomery HS is terrific, and building on the excellent traditions and foundation before us will continue to be a focus.
As an educator, my focus often lands on the power of "If not me, then who?" and has always been a part of my approach. "If not me, then who?" reminds us that no task or person is above or below me. If this is true, it requires that whatever is before me is my duty; this is true for all of us. As the year progresses, genuinely being a Bear will require that we all do our part, and this will ensure that, as a community, we are one filled with pride and excellence.
Being a part of THE Montgomery HS means embodying Trust, Honor, and Excellence, and we are proud to see our students living these values daily. We are looking forward to the coming days and seeing students stepping up and stepping out in a way that shows everyone who we are; we are THE Montgomery HS.
I want to express my sincere gratitude to all the families of Montgomery HS; your children are amazing. I have spoken personally to many of you; your dedication and love of your child(ren) and the Montgomery community are evident. Thank you all.
Sincerely,
Dr. Troy Collavo
Principal - MHS

Campus and Student Safety:
Have continued conversations about the power of the word "NO". In many cases, when used in the right setting, the word "NO" is a full sentence with no need for explanation. In the event that it is not sufficient, direct your student to reach out to an adult or use our anonymous tip system when in need. Additionally, talk to your student about the dangers of using non-designated campus doors to enter and exit the building. Doors must remained closed and locked at all times; Stop the Prop. Please speak to your students about the importance of refraining from vaping and the damages that can come from it, especially from a health and legal aspect. Say NO to vaping.
As many of you are aware, the district has approved calling Proposition A, also known as a Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE) for Nov. 5, 2024. State law requires that school districts seek voter approval to raise their tax rate above a prescribed amount. Proposition A will allow MISD voters to approve or disapprove the tax rate adopted by the Board of Trustees. To learn more about this proposition and how it could impact our district, staff, and students, MISD has included information about Prop A on the district website.
