Instructional Rounds
in New Hampshire Schools
In partnership with the Harvard Graduate School of Education
Are you curious if your work is improving learning for your students?
Are you meeting your school goals and/or your Improvement Plan?
Do you have a "stuck point" and you need some new ideas?
Southeastern Regional Education Service Center (SERESC) is accepting schools to participate in Cohort III of Instructional Rounds in New Hampshire Schools. This yearlong professional learning series includes an introduction to the concept and practice of Instructional Rounds, trains teams of educators in the principles of the instructional core and how to conduct Rounds at the school level.
The end result: Improving teaching and learning while developing instructional leadership within a school district.
What is Instructional Rounds?
The Instructional Rounds process was developed by Richard Elmore, Professor of Educational Leadership at Harvard University Graduate School of Education and was inspired by the medical-rounds model used by physicians. Elmore and his colleagues at Harvard have pioneered this highly effective form of professional learning to develop a shared practice of observing, discussing, analyzing teaching and learning. The process is specifically designed to help move school improvement efforts to the next level by maintaining commitment, monitoring progress and using a network strategy to analyze and support the instructional core.
Teams that include a combination of administrators, teacher leaders and classroom teachers are encouraged to register for this professional development series. Enrollment in the Network will be limited to approximately 4 teams of 5-7 people per team.
Participating teams in Instructional Rounds must make a commitment to the dates for training and conducting of Rounds in schools. Scheduled sessions will include two days of school team training and four days of Instructional Rounds conducted in schools.
SERESC Facilitators will lead participants through Rounds with the end result of improving teaching and learning and developing instructional leadership within a school district.
The cost for participating in Instructional Rounds in New Hampshire Schools is $1,700.00 per person and includes materials, books, technical assistance and a facilitator who will work directly with the team both on and off site.
