100th Day of School (TBD)
Feb. 14, 2025 Valentines Dance (during recess)

Feb 28, 2025 3 hour early dismissal
Participating in the 100th Day of school: all students may dress up as a 100 year old person. We are currently looking into the exact date, due to the snow days that closed schools.
ELA: We are continuing to understand and demonstrate phonological awareness and interact with sources in meaningful ways. Our.sight words for the week are: was, said, where.
Math: We are continuing to work on writing, counting, and reading numbers 1-20.
Science: We are learning all about living and nonliving things.
Social Studies: We are learning all about African American Inventors and pioneers.
Our DRA’s are the last set of assessments that need to be completed over the next 2 weeks.
Please make sure that your scholar is getting enough rest, eats a nutritious breakfast, and comes to school ready.
Friendly reminder: If your scholar has a fever, or is not feeling well; please keep them home until their symptoms are gone for at least 24 hours. We are trying to alleviate the spread of germs within our classrooms.

Fascinating First Grade News!
Hello Firstie families!
Next week, the 100th day of school is supposed to be on February 12th. Since the forecast calls for snow, we will reschedule if we have a snow day. For the 100th day of school, 1st grade is asking that students dress as a 100 year old person. As a reminder if your scholar wants to bring in Valentines goodie bags, we ask that they are non-edible items. We also ask that the Valentines bags are nameless to ensure each child will receive one.

Please ensure scholars are coming to school dressed for the winter weather. We have recess at 10:50 a.m. and will be going outside if the temperature is above 35 degrees.

Second Grade Team
Terrific Third Grade News!
In Social Studies, students will begin Chapter 4: Lesson 2 Branches of Government.
In Math, we're starting Topic 10! Scholars are going back to multiplication, looking at patterns in multiplication facts. We're focusing on multiplying multiples of 10 using mental math.
In Science, scholars are still working on climate, learning about how climates change and are different around the world.
Fourth Grade Weekly News!
Next week in Reading, students will finish analyzing plot & setting in a realistic fiction text. Students will also begin brainstorming ideas for their realistic fiction story. In Social Studies, students will begin studying the Northeast Region. In Math, students will begin topic 9 adding & subtracting fractions. In Science, students will model how light reflection allows objects to be seen.

Fabulous Fifth Grade News!
Tigers! Tigers! Thank you for your hard work and perseverance this week! We completed test makeups and will now begin DRA testing for reading development and comprehension. Be on the lookout for DRA pullouts from your ELA teacher. Make sure you are reading daily and keeping a reading log of your reading adventures. Read for 20 minutes daily to build your reading muscles! CMIT is proud of your hard work and efforts!
Black History Month Celebration (Wax Museum)
Students will participate in the Black History Month Wax Museum on February 27th, 2025.
Details will be given to your scholar regarding the details and it will also be posted in Class Dojo. Please ensure your scholar completes an essay research paper, poster, and costume for the wax museum. The essay and poster is due on February 25, 2025 and the Wax Museum costume is to be worn on February 27th, 2025. Thank you for all your hard work. Superior Specials News!
Art
Kindergarteners are working on Lines and Shapes. We have reviewed safe scissor use and techniques.
Students will create their own artwork focused on lines and shapes and experiment with collage.
First graders are finishing a project called,
I Love My Hair!
Students will create a portrait with an abstract hair design that depicts a particular mood or feeling, using line, repetition, pattern, and color.
Second graders are creating imaginary creatures in
“Monster Mashup”
Students will present their never-before-seen creature hybrids by combining parts from five animals, to create one in its habitat. We will critique next week.
Third graders are making Patterned Landscapes. Students will create a landscape that contains patterns.
Fourth grade, Names Revealed Through Color:
Students are creating geometric name designs using color, shapes, lines, and text to express an aspect of their personality. They will submit Artist Statements next week along with a critique
Fifth graders are making “Monster Line Drawings” Students create illustrations from random markings to create a 3D image with form and texture. Artist Statements and reviews are due next week.
Music
Hello! K is beginning to learn the different patterns songs are created in, this week they learned the 2/4 pattern. 1st grade is continuing to learn how to play and recognize G and E (Sol/Mi) on the xylophone, 2nd grade is learning how to create their own melodies using the G Pentatonic Scale, 3rd Grade is advancing their learning on Skips and Steps, 4th and 5th grade are continuing to practice the chorus of the songs Under the sea and The Climb on the xylophone for a project grade!

In this engaging and interactive digital lesson, the learners receive direct instruction and practice in keyboarding the letters K, L, M, N, and O as they locate and type the letters, recognize the letter sounds, and learn the relationship between the letters on the keyboard and on the screen.
3-5 practiced Software Fundamentals: Windows and Controls
In this engaging and interactive digital lesson, the learners receive direct instruction and practice with dialog boxes and options windows, making selections using check boxes, radio buttons, scroll bars, and dropdown menus, and controls to close, maximize, minimize, restore, and resize windows.

STEM II
Greetings,
K-2:Learned about Groundhog’s Day and how shadows are created. We did an investigation to find out which angle the light needs to shine on the groundhog for it to see its shadow.
3: Began creating their NY City landmark templates out of paper.
4-5: Students have successfully budgeted the materials needed to begin building their floats. Fifth grade students have learned this week that the price of materials today are not necessarily the price of materials tomorrow. This week their materials prices have increased by 5% so, if they needed additional materials they were obtaining them at the increased rate.
