Viking News - The Week of 8/26/2024

The Week of March 3rd, 2025
Happy Friday, RMHS Students and Families,
We had a great first week back after the vacation with a lot of things happening across grades 6-12. This coming week, the high school course selection process begins for students in grades 8-11. We met with the students this past week to share more about the array of offerings and to answer questions about the process. Teachers will begin to make their recommendations through Aspen on Monday and will complete the process by Thursday afternoon. Families are invited to attend an informational event on Thursday, March 6th at 7pm in the Auditorium. To learn more details about the event and this process, please see the Course Selection section below.
Congratulations to our girls and boys basketball teams for competing in the state level of competition this past week. The girls' won their first tournament game at home this past Tuesday to a gym full of Viking fans of all ages! They played their second game of the tournament away at Naragansett High School this past Thursday fighting a tough loss to end a fantastic season. The boys' are making their three-hour journey tonight (Friday) for the first leg of the tourney journey. We are so proud of our teams for their successful seasons!
A group of middle/high school students traveled to the Dominican Republic over vacation for a service trip that served to be a life-changing experience for all involved. The trip was led by 'Profe' Cox-Stavros and attended by roughly 25 students 8-12. Their stories of service and civic engagement are inspiring and we look forward to them sharing more with the students through Assembly block over the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, over 20 RHS students are in Boston for the DECA State Competition where they are competing against students from all over the state presenting their marketing and sales strategies through role play, sales pitch and written presentations. On Saturday, the RHS Drama Llamas are headed to Woburn High School to perform their rendition of "Lepers" for the annual Drama Fest Competition. There will be a public performance at 7pm tonight (Friday, February 28th) in the Auditorium for anyone interested in attending. As if that's not enough, the RPS Art Show opened at the Rockport Art Association this past week and will remain open throughout the end of next week. Don't miss out on the opportunity to check out the student artwork across grades PK-12. See below for more details about the event below. 🎨
The middle school is kicking off the month of March with spirit as we head into the annual Spirit Month activities. Please see the flyer below for details about Friday themes and ways for students 6-8 to participate and get involved. Thank you to the RMS Student Council for sponsoring the event for us all to enjoy! 🥳🎉
Here's to a great week ahead! 😎

RHS Graduation – Friday, May 30, 2025 at 5 pmWhy Attendance Matters
Being in school and on time are extremely important to your child's success. When students attend school regularly and arrive on time, they stay engaged in their learning, build strong relationships, and develop solid study habits. Please help us by making sure your child gets to school on time each day. The cafeteria and library are open at 7:00 am and free breakfast is available in the cafeteria for all students. The main hallways and classrooms open at 7:25 am.
School Safety Reminder
The school campus is closed to the public when school is in session and after 10:00pm nightly. This includes the use of the tennis courts, track, playgrounds, athletic fields and all other parts of the campus. This does not include families and community members attending school events in our schools or on our school grounds. We appreciate the community's understanding and support as we continue to prioritize the safety of RPS students and staff.
Winter/Spring 2025 Half Day Schedule
School Breakfast
Breakfast is an important way to start a productive day. We encourage all students to arrive early enough to get breakfast before school begins if possible. For those students not able to get to school early on any given day, we will provide a set time in the morning to be sure breakfast is accessible to all. Breakfast and lunch continue to be free for students this year.
