Thank you for your flexibility as we completed a few days of the new trial procedures for walkers. There are a large number of cars parked on Andrew Drive waiting for students to exit the building. To alleviate some of this volume, please use the car rider line if your child is not a walker. The car rider line is moving much faster since we have begun dismissing students by the Smartboards. Thank you for your cooperation in an effort to provide a safe dismissal for all students.
END OF THE YEAR CLASSROOM PARTIES
End of the year celebrations will be held in the classrooms on Wednesday, June 12th, unless otherwise indicated by your classroom teacher. Please contact your child's teacher, directly, with questions. The office staff would not be able to answer specific questions that you may have regarding your child’s event.
REPORT CARD DISTRIBUTION
Report cards will be available to families on the Home Access Center (HAC) at 4:00pm on Thursday June 13th. A paper copy of the report card will be sent home with students on June 13th, as well. Please keep in mind that teacher assignments for the 2024-2025 school year for all students will be available in the Home Access Center (HAC) in mid-August.

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS ROCKY?
Dear Families,
We wanted to let you know about a special schoolwide summer project called: "Where in the World is Rocky?"
Today, June 10th, every student in grades K-5 will receive a picture of Rocky on a popsicle stick as well as a direction sheet explaining the project. Students are encouraged to bring Rocky along on their summer adventures and take pictures that will be included in a slideshow for our annual PBIS kickoff assembly.
Staff will also receive their very own Rocky on a popsicle and are encouraged to bring him along on their summer adventures, too!
Please look for ROCKY and the direction sheet in your child's folder today.
We hope this will be a fun summer project and a great way to connect at the beginning of the next school year.
MESSAGE FROM THE LIBRARIAN
Just a friendly reminder that all books are due back to the library by Friday, June 7th. Our students borrowed over 33,000 books this year, so getting all of our books back is exciting and challenging. Thank you for supporting our school library this year.
MUSICAL NOTES
At the end of the year 🎶"we don't want to work... we just want to bang on the drum all day!"🎶 We had a fun week of drum circles and singing our end of the year songs that you can find HERE. Thank you for an amazing, musical year! I hope your summer is filled with joy and singing!
COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Hello Goodnoe families,
As the school year comes to a close, your child may be having mixed feelings including excitement, worry, sadness and relief all at the same time. As parents, it is natural to want to help your children have a smooth transition to the end of the school year. Here are some strategies to help support your child’s transition from school to summer break:
Acknowledge emotions: The end of the school year can bring up strong feelings as children say goodbye to their teachers and classmates. You can be supportive by listening to their concerns and validating their feelings.
Maintain a routine: Children thrive on predictability and maintaining a routine. It is very helpful to have a scheduled wake-up time and bedtime time, mealtimes and other routines to follow.
Stick to behavioral rules and expectations: Children benefit from clear expectations and being held accountable for their actions. Assigning chores and responsibilities for your children throughout summer is another way to foster responsibility, help build their confidence and provide a sense of routine.
Continue social connections: Provide opportunities for your child to spend time with peers from school during the summer, and encourage them to make new friends as well. Camps, pool outings and playdates are a great way to foster social opportunities and connections.
Encourage learning opportunities: Trips to museums, the library, and other locations where learning can occur will help the continuation of academic growth. When establishing a summer routine, it is helpful to include reading time or time to research a topic of interest.
Balance structure with flexibility: While it is important to maintain structure, it is also important to find ways to be flexible and have spontaneity and unstructured play time. Allowing your children to decide how to spend their time outdoors, engaging in last minute get together and activities can be fun and help foster your child’s ability to go with the flow and be flexible.
Wishing our Goodnoe community a fun and safe summer!
READING TIDBITS & TIPS
Summer is right around the corner and it is an opportunity for children to do whatever makes them happy. It’s a big chunk of time though. To better prepare your child/children for their transition to the next grade level this fall it is helpful to do activities to maintain and grow their skills over the summer. Please see the link below for activities through Amplify that families can use with their child/children to practice and reinforce the Five Pillars of Literacy: Phonological Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension.
https://www.mclass.amplify.com/homeconnect/
In addition, research shows reading is an effective way for children to maintain or grow their skills over the summer. Weave in visits to the library where your child can choose books that interest them and that they would like to read.
We also encourage you to read to your children. This can help build comprehension skills. Please see the link below for ways to help your child grow their thinking skills as you read to them.

Most importantly…reading to children teaches them to associate books with love and affection, so read aloud and read often with and to your children. It will make all of you smile!
From Goodnoe’s Literacy Specialists…have a wonderful summer!

Footwear:
To help provide a safe environment for your child, please be sure your child wears sneakers or similar soled shoes for gym class and recess. It is strongly recommended that flip flops, sandals, or crocks without back straps not be worn as they do cause a hazard in school and on the playground.
Ticks:
We have seen an increase in ticks at recess over the last two week. Please make sure you check your child(ren) daily when they get home.

TRANSPORTATION SURVEY
Dear Families,
Each year we ask the community’s help in completing a short survey to help determine ridership information for next school year. Your responses help us assess transportation needs and improve overall busing experience for our students and families by focusing routing on students who will use the service.
Keep in mind, you will receive a unique survey link for each of your enrolled children and if you indicate not using the bus now you can resume service by contacting the Transportation Department at any time.
Survey responses will be accepted June 3 through June 14, 2024 and if no response is received, students will be assigned the choice on record as of the last day of the current (23/24) school year.
Sincerely,
The CRSD Transportation Department
PARENTAL CONTROLS FOR DEVICES
These days most children have access to an iPhone or an iPad, whether it is their own device or one belonging to their parents. However, this could lead to the children being exposed to inappropriate content, online predators, and inappropriate text messaging. Therefore, parents need to provide guidance and take precautions. The easiest way to keep track of your children and their phone usage is to monitor the device and text messages. We also strongly suggest disabling group messaging on your child’s phone or ipad, as many inappropriate conversations occur on this type of messaging, which quickly escalate into conflict and drama. If there are conversations that lead to highly inappropriate content or cyberbullying, your child can be held accountable for being part of the conversation.
Below are links to help you set up parental control for your child’s apple or android device.
NO DOGS/PETS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS
When escorting students to and from school, please do not bring pets on school grounds or into the school building. Many of our children have pet allergies or are afraid of animals; therefore, the presence of animals in school or on school grounds is prohibited. Some classes at Goodnoe Elementary School do participate in the Nor’Wester Reading Dogs program, so on occasion you may see dogs visiting. These dogs are specially trained and licensed to work in the schools with students. No other animals are permitted on school property during school hours. Please refer to our board policy for more information on animals in school policy 718 https://go.boarddocs.com/pa/coun/Board.nsf/vpublic?open#
