Good evening, Waters Landing family,
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! It was great to see so many families at our Latino Heritage Car Parade Last Wednesday! Thank you to our Parent Community Coordinator, Ms. Moore, and her team for planning such a wonderful event! Please find links above to a video about Hispanic Heritage month, the National Museum of the American Latino's virtual exhibits, and a read aloud about the Latina artist Frida Kahlo.
Thank you to the parents who attended Chat & Chew with the Principal on Friday. They heard about the School Improvement Plan goals and provided meaningful feedback on how we can make Waters Landing Elementary the best school possible, from a parent perspective. We value all feedback we receive from our parents.
It's Book Fair week! The theme this year is the Carnival of Books. Students have the opportunity to shop during school hours, but there will be extended hours on Family Nights, Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00-7:00pm, for families to shop after school hours. Thank you to our PTA for sponsoring this event.
October is National Bully Prevention Month. At the Landing we take bullying seriously, but unfortunately there have been several instances of bullying reported. Please have a discussion with your student(s) about the importance of being respectful, responsible and safe by being an upstander, someone who intervenes on behalf of a person being bullied. An upstander can suggest that the person being bullied take a walk with him or her to get away from the situation, go to a staff member to report it or tell a parent who will then contact the school. It is going to take our entire community working together towards this effort in order for us to eradicate bullying at Waters Landing Elementary School. We have several activities planned for this month to elevate the importance of bully prevention. In addition, a Peace Walk will be held on October 7, 2023, starting at Black Rock Center for the Arts. This is the perfect month for that event. Please see the flyer below.
Our first WLES PTA meeting of the 2023-2024 school year will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 in the All Purpose Room at 7:00pm. The PTA is one of our school's key community partners. The mission of the PTA is to make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. We are also in need of PTA officers for the 2023-2024 school year. Please click here to let us know that you are interested in serving our school community as a PTA officer.
We are starting an After School STEM Club through Whiz Kid Academy for students at every grade level. The first class will meet on 10/11/23. Please click on the flyers below to register. The registration page has incorrect dates, which Whiz Kid Academy should be correcting this week.
Enjoy the week!
