What's gone down & what's coming up at the leopards' lair.

January 3, 2025
It was great to be reconnected to our Leopards this week! We hope all our Leopard families enjoyed a restful and rejuvenating time with family and loved ones.
Prior to the break, we embraced some of the joy of the season at The Lab. Mrs. Ellingsworth's class surprised her to celebrate her earning of National Board Certification. She is one of just 163 BCPS teachers (of ~9000) to earn that designation, through a rigorous process of extensive written reflection, data analysis, and submission of video of instruction. We also held a winter celebration before break. We had a sing-along, performances from student groups, and our top Read-A-Thon readers and fundraisers were rewarded, including the chance to pie Mr. McComb in the face. Our 5th graders had an experiential Colonial Day to culminate their ELA and Social Studies units focused on that time period with games and crafts traditional to that time. In the final days before break, some elves got on the loose in the building and were up to some mischief. Some students even spotted one on campus, and the elf even snuck a pie in during the assembly.
We went out into break with some joy, and it looks like some joyful snow play may be ahead for students as well. BCPS's Inclement Weather plan has been approved by the State Department of Education and calls for 3 traditional snow days to occur prior to any virtual days. Additional information is below and more specifics will come as we get closer to the possibility.
In partnership,
-Mr. McComb

BCPS Message Regarding Inclement Weather Plan
Please see the message below that was sent to BCPS Families on Wednesday, December 4th:
As we head into the winter months, we want to share important information about our Virtual Inclement Weather Day Plan for the 2024-2025 school year. The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) is providing local school systems with the option to repurpose inclement weather days as virtual school days. MSDE has approved BCPS' 2024-2025 Virtual Inclement Weather Day Plan. Our plan is to transition to virtual school days after three inclement weather closures.
After those three full-day closures, when inclement weather is forecasted, families will be notified if BCPS will transition to virtual learning for that day. Students will be reminded to bring devices, chargers, and other instructional materials home. Staff will also be asked to prepare lessons and materials.

Congratulations to Mrs. Nicholson & Mrs. Feltman's homerooms, who won for most minutes read and Mrs. Weisbecker's class won for top fundraising class. Both groups enjoyed pizza parties, with pizza donated by Olympia Pizzeria.
