The Legal Budget Committee consists of the members of the School Board and five citizen members who are charged with reviewing and approving the budget for the upcoming school year.

Citizen members are appointed to three-year terms.

The budget committee's work is typically accomplished during three or four meetings in the spring.

We are currently accepting applications for two open positions.

Application deadline is February 8, 2019.

The AP Exam registration window is February 4, starting at 6:00 a.m., through February 15, deadline at 3:00 p.m. The cost is $80 per exam (cash, check, or credit card made payable to your high school or you may pay online through your school's Webstore).

An AP Exam "Pre-Registration" assembly was provided for AP students on Wednesday, January 30. A brochure and registration instructions were distributed at that time.

From February 4 to February 15 the YouthTruth Family Survey will be open and we want to hear from you!

The 15-minute online survey can be found on this page when it goes live on February 4.

Your response is anonymous and will be combined with responses from other parents/guardians throughout the District.

Student Survey:

The survey is scheduled to be administered to all students between Monday, February 4 and Friday, February 15. The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete and will be administered during the school day.

We invite all students to participate in this survey, however, participation is voluntary.

Your child's ratings will not be identified in any reports because results are shared at the group level. Personally identifiable information will not be released to any third party.

National School Counseling Week is almost here! This year it is on February 4 through 8 and the theme is "School Counselors: Providing Lessons for Life."

The LOSD administration would like to give a big thank you to our school counselors for their leadership, advocacy, collaboration and systemic change efforts for improving student outcomes. They are vital members of the education team. They help all students in the areas of academic achievement, career, and social/emotional development, ensuring today's students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow.

In order to preserve the history of Bryant Elementary, the Lake Oswego School District commissioned a professional photographer to take high-resolution photographs of each tile on the outside of Bryant Elementary School. Attention parents of girls in grades 3 – 5. Registration is now open for Girls on the Run, a non-profit program that inspires 3 – 5 grade girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. The girls meet twice a week, March through May, to explore the curriculum and train to run a celebratory 5k. Girls on the Run is not a racing program. It is about bringing a positive attitude, taking care of ourselves, setting goals, supporting community, and reaching a goal together! Forest Hills and Oak Creek will each have a team of 15 girls that will practice Monday and Wednesday right after school for 90 minutes.

Oak Creek Elementary is excited to partner with SMART (Start Making A Reader Today), the nationally-recognized Oregon nonprofit providing one-on-one reading support and books to keep to PreK through third-grade kids. Over the past 26 years, SMART has paired more than 134,000 volunteers with 211,000 kids to build reading motivation, self-confidence, and foster a lifelong love of reading.

The SMART program at Oak Creek Elementary is the first in the Lake Oswego School District. SMART focuses on partnering with Oregon schools that have a high proportion of historically underserved kids. While Lake Oswego is affluent compared to much of the state, Oak Creek is designated as a Title I school, serving a high proportion of students from economically disadvantaged households.

Focused on getting kids excited about books and reading, SMART will serve 25 kindergarten students at Oak Creek this year and more than 11,000 across the state. We hope you will consider making a gift to support the program at Oak Creek and schools across Oregon. A gift of just $40 provides a year’s worth of books for a child in SMART to keep and build their personal library, and a gift of $325 provides a full year of SMART for one child. Join OSBA's (Oregon School Boards Association) efforts for revenue reform and cost containment as we head into the 2019 legislative session. Beginning January 10 in Pendleton, OSBA will host a series of evening town halls as part of "Oregonians for Student Success," a campaign for adequate and stable Oregon K-12 school funding.

The town halls will run through the beginning of the legislative session and into March, with at least ten events throughout the state.

The Youth Action Council is hosting its 3rd annual Outside the Art Room Teen Showcase & Auction and applications are now open. Outside the Art Room is a teen art showcase open to the public featuring more than 50 artists from LO! Teens can sell or showcase their artwork; there is no fee to apply but artists must donate one original or reproduction piece to the silent auction which benefits the Children's Healing Art Project (CHAP).

What will the conversation be about:

What does it look like when adults really listen to young people? Cultural beliefs about young people perpetuate myths that cause harm, especially when combined with laws that control their physical and emotional autonomy and limit their ability to participate in public life. Young people experiencing marginalization for any reason—race, gender, sexuality, ability—also have the added layer of not being taken seriously because of their age, yet the history of social justice movements in the United States is deeply connected to young people’s agency, autonomy, and power. Join Oregon Humanities Conversation Project facilitator, Emily Squires, and the River Grove Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Team for a conversation that asks folks to explore their own beliefs about what it means to be young, and to reflect on their individual relationship to power as it relates to age.
