FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Dear Edison Families,
Life has a way of throwing unexpected challenges our way, and while we can’t always control what happens, we can control how we respond. These past few weeks have been incredibly tough for many of us. From the loss of a beloved community member to the devastation caused by the fires and the disruptions from school closures, it’s been a trying time. Yet, what has truly lifted my spirits is the way our community has come together.
Our staff has shown an outpouring of strength, compassion, and dedication. In times when some of our team members were deeply affected, others stepped up in extraordinary ways—covering shifts, offering emotional support, and working extra hours to ensure everything kept moving forward. Our office staff took the initiative to reach out to families in the most impacted areas, checking in personally to offer support and make sure everyone was safe. Meanwhile, our teachers communicated with such care and thoughtfulness, providing families with ways to keep students engaged in learning during the closures, and when we returned to school, they helped our students transition back with kindness and understanding.
I’m also so grateful for our parent community, whose patience and support have been nothing short of amazing. I know how hard it was to wait for daily updates about school closures, and yet, many of you trusted the process, knowing that the district was making the best decisions with the information they had. Your patience has meant so much. Several parents have also offered to help in any way they could, particularly with families who were most affected. One first-grade family tragically lost their home. While we are not permitted to organize financial assistance as a school or PTA, if you’d like to help, please reach out to your room reps, who can communicate with the first-grade reps on how to support them.
And of course, I want to take a moment to celebrate our incredible students. They are truly the heart of our school, and they’ve been a constant source of inspiration. Their resilience during these challenging times has been remarkable. When school reopened, the joy of seeing each other again was palpable. Our students expressed their feelings openly and with maturity, and they found healthy ways to process what they were going through. I witnessed moments of true compassion—like when a group of fifth-grade boys spontaneously gathered to hold a moment of silence for a classmate’s mother who passed away. Another class wrote heartfelt thank-you cards to firefighters for their heroic work. Our first through third graders embraced their new dance classes with boundless enthusiasm, and when our substitute music teacher was running late, the students took it upon themselves to set up the music room and practice together. Some classes are planning projects to help the community after the fires. Our students’ strength, kindness, and resilience have truly been inspiring.
While I hope the remainder of the school year brings calmer days, I’m confident that no matter what challenges may arise, our community will continue to face them with patience, kindness, and unwavering strength. I want to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your ongoing support and compassion.
Wishing you all a safe, healthy, and joyful rest of the new year!
With warmest regards,
Directora Ipiña

WEDNESDAY PARENT MEETINGS - PTA MEETING AT NIGHT!
This week we will NOT have a morning meeting, but will instead have our PTA Meeting at 6 pm in Zoom at this link. The reason we are changing the meeting time and format is because many people in our community will be attending the Memorial Service for Sylvia Kerkotchian.
Applications Available for Siblings for 2025-26 School Year
As you know, in order to apply for a spot at Edison, families must attend an orientation. We do this to ensure that they understand our dual immersion program and can make an informed decision about whether it is the right program for their child. Here are the dates of our next orientations. Sign ups are on our website under the ADMISSIONS tab.
Jan 21: TK/K Orientation, 5:30 pm
Jan 23: TK/K Orientation, 5:30 pm
Families of current Edison students in grades TK-5 who have a sibling applying for the next school year do not need to attend an orientation to apply, however, we need to know who you are so we can send you an application.
If you are a current Edison parent of a student in TK-5, and you would like to apply for a sibling for the 25-26 school year, let us know by clicking the link below. We will send you an application. Applications are due January 31st.

Memorial Services for Sylvia Kerkotchian
As you know we lost a special community member, Sylvia Kerkotchian, the first week back after Winter Break. Sylvia was the parent of 5th grader, Nina and 4th grader, Shant. She was also a district Ed Tech TOSA (Teacher on Special Assignment). Sylvia had many friends in our community, both staff and parents, so her loss was felt deeply. Below is more information about her and her services.

UPCOMING THEATER PERFORMANCES - CHANGES!
Due to the week of school closures, we have pushed several plays forward one week. Please double check your child's theater performance date below.
Progress Reports go home one week later - February 14
Due to the school closures, teachers got behind on assessing students for progress reports. As a result, the district has extended the progress report window by one week. Progress reports will now go home on February 14th.
Edison Library Wishlist
Great news! Our students love to read and they are asking for more! We work very hard to ensure all of our students learn to read in both languages. Our skilled teachers and our wonderful collection of books play a crucial role in making sure that happens. Our students are always asking for more books, but we can't always meet the demand. Would you like to help? Click here to see our Edison Library Wishlist. If you would like to buy a book and donate it to our library, our students would be very grateful.
