Chromebook Danger
Dear Scituate Families,
We are writing to inform you about a concerning and hazardous trend circulating on social media platforms, particularly TikTok, known as the “Chromebook Challenge.” This trend encourages students to insert conductive materials—such as pencil lead, paper clips, aluminum foil, or metallic gum wrappers—into the USB ports or charging areas of their school-issued Chromebooks. The intent is to create electrical short circuits, which can result in sparking, smoke, and even fires. Such actions pose significant risks, including potential injuries, damage to school property, and disruptions to the learning environment. WJAR+6CT Insider+6Parents+6Columbia Borough School District.
In other schools and districts, this behavior has typically led to school evacuations and property damage in neighboring states, including Connecticut. The safety of our students and staff is our utmost priority, and we are taking proactive measures to prevent such dangerous activities in our schools. CT Insider+2Yahoo News+2Parents+2
Consequences for Engaging in This Behavior:
Disciplinary Actions: Students found participating in this activity will face severe disciplinary measures, which may include suspension, in accordance with our district policies and student handbooks.
Financial Responsibility: Families will be held financially responsible for any damages to the facility or property resulting from such actions. The cost to replace a damaged Chromebook can be up to $300.
Legal Implications: Tampering with electronic devices in this manner may be considered criminal behavior, potentially leading to charges such as vandalism or arson https://www.azfamily.com+4CT Insider+4https://www.mysuncoast.com+4
Our Community Standards:
Scituate is proud of its strong, respectful, and responsible school community. Engaging in activities that endanger others or damage property is unacceptable and goes against the values we uphold. We are committed to maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment for all students.Kitsap Sun+3Greenwich Time+3https://www.mysuncoast.com+3
Parental Guidance:
We urge parents and guardians to have open conversations with their children about the dangers and consequences of participating in such online trends. Encourage them to:
Refrain from engaging in or promoting harmful challenges.
Report any knowledge of such activities to a trusted adult or school official.
Use school-issued devices responsibly and by school policies.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s school principal or the district office.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter and for your continued partnership in ensuring the safety and well-being of our students.
Sincerely,
Scituate Administrative Team
Mobile Food App Memo SHS
To: High School Students and Families
From: High School Administration and School Resource Officer (SRO)
Subject: Reminder – Food Delivery Policy and Building Safety
Dear Students and Families, May 2, 2025
We want to take a moment to address an important matter related to school safety. Recently, we have observed an increase in students using mobile food delivery services (such as DoorDash, Uber Eats, etc.) during the school day.
We understand the convenience these services offer, but please note that food deliveries are not permitted during school hours, as outlined in the student handbook. This procedure is in place to help us maintain a safe and secure environment for all students and staff.
Unfortunately, some students have been opening exterior doors to allow delivery drivers into the building. This has primarily occurred before lunchtime and during 8th and 9th periods.
Allowing any unauthorized individuals—no matter their purpose—into the building poses a serious safety concern. These actions create vulnerabilities in our security procedures and increase risks that are otherwise preventable.
Moving forward:
No food deliveries will be accepted at school during the instructional day.
If a delivery driver attempts to enter the building or make a drop-off, they may be subject to a safety check completed by the Police Department. The food will be searched and confiscated.
Any incidents involving unauthorized building access will be documented accordingly.
We ask for your partnership in reinforcing this policy with your student. Our shared goal is to keep our school safe, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation in ensuring that we uphold these standards together.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Michael Hassell

Boys Lacrosse
Come out on Tuesday and support our boys in their senior night game... also known as "Luke Carter Night"
This past Tuesday 5/13, Scituate boys LAX remained undefeated, winning against N. Providence, 18-1! Honestly, this was just another blow out, these boys are simply on 7 different Spartan players scored in this matchup! Grant Bailey scored 5Gs with 4As, and Caden Gurjian got 4Gs and 3As. Jacob Robinson, Cole Cooper, Gabe Brown, and Tommy Slater each scored 2Gs with 1A, and Austin Dutra got 1G. Brady Scanlon got 3As, and Jackson Bowden and Brian Kelly with 1A each.Bryant Amaral won 8/10, Slater 4/7, and Dutra won 2/3, face-offs.Goalies Jon Greenhalgh (5 saves of 5 shots on goal) and Ryan LaNinfa (2/3), split the game and minded the net for 2 quarters each.
The boys are currently ranked 5th in the state, and clearly rule their division.
They play next, THIS SUNDAY 5/18, at home vs. PONO at 1pm. Always a good townie rival game to watch, so come to Caito to cheer on your Spartans!
Tennis Celebrated our Seniors!

Girls Lacrosse
The Scituate girls lacrosse team won this past Monday's home non-conference game against D3 North Smithfield, 9-8. Dramatic game to say the least!
NS came out strong with 2 goals in the 1st quarter. Scituate's pep talk during the break must have been effective; the Spartans' Grace Jacavone scored, and Norah Clarke scored 2, in the first 2 minutes of the 2nd quarter, and by half time Scituate was up 4-2 with another from Amy Glass.
NS scored, and then Scituate's Sam Duarte got #5 for the Spartans on a penalty early in the 3rd, and after which Scituate peppered NS with 3 more (Glass for 1, Riley Brooks for 2) during the quarter to sit at 8-3.
Remarkably, NS then scored 5 in a row to end regular play tied at 8-8.
However, it didn't take long for Brooks to get the winning goal in OT for the Spartans to come away with the win!
Scituate's goalie Lainey Nelson had 13
saves; this game was such a nail-biter!
The next day, the Spartans also defeated North Providence 6-4, and next play Lincoln on Monday 5/19 at 5:30pm; after that they only have two more regular season games before post season starts. Scituate girls lax currently sit at 2nd in their division!
Keep it up ladies!
Softball
Big win over North Providence, 20-1 in just 3 innings. Next game is at home vs North Kingstown 4pm game time.
