Southeast Academy 1st Quater Promotion Ceremony
SOUTHEAST ACADEMY PROMOTION CEREMONY
Southeast Academy takes pride in celebrating cadets’ achievements. When cadets earn a promotion, it’s a major achievement on campus. During our Promotion Ceremony we will bring praise and recognition upon the cadet in front of their family, peers, teachers, counselors, and staff recognizing their high level of consistency and hard work. Through our recognition of the promotee we not only remind junior cadets what is required to be successful, but also we will reinforce the idea that these efforts are not pointless. In addition, we encourage the promotee to continue to excel and strive for excellence. The primary focus of the Southeast Academy Promotion Ceremony is to celebrate cadets’ success while encouraging others.
Understanding Promotions
The Cadet Battalion Commander (BnCmdr) has the responsibility to assemble and conduct the Cadets Promotion Board. Before the board opens the BnCmdr will provide specific instructions to board members, reminding them the importance of their responsibilities. It takes Board Members 5-7 days, meeting before and after school to complete their board responsibilities. Promotion Board Members are comprised of 30-cadets from the battalion, company, and platoon leadership teams. They are tasked in selecting the best qualified cadets for each rank.
Promotion Board Process
Platoon Commanders from each platoon will brief the status of every cadet to the Promotion Board. This is their opportunity to provide evidence about each cadet under evaluation and give specific information to the Promotion Board why their cadet should receive a promotion. During this process, board members can become very competitive. This tests Platoon Commanders ability to communicate their thoughts effectively. After each briefing Board Members will vote, Yes or No to approve or not approve a promotion, this is easier said than done. The Promotion Board must reach a majority vote for cadets to earn a promotion. At Southeast Academy there are nine focus areas the Promotion Board will use to evaluate each cadet. Each focus area is worth 100-points, we call this point system the cadets cutting score. A reporting period equals one school quarter or 10-weeks. Cadets will earn a new cutting score after each reporting period.
The Southeast Academy Board Members will primarily focus on the following areas:
· Academics & GPA
· Attendance & Tardy
· Teachers, Counselors & Staff Remarks
· Platoon Leaders Evaluation
· Leadership Responsibilities and Observations
· Proficiencies and conduct on and off campus
· Physical Fitness Score
· Graded Uniform Inspections
· Daily morning Inspections
*Recommendations and comments from board member are also considered during the open dialog session.
To be eligible for the ranks Cadet Second Class (CSC) and Cadet First Class (CFC), cadets must pass all their classes with a minimum 2.0 GPA and have a qualifying cutting score. To be a Corporal and above cadets must pass all their class with a minimum 3.0 GPA, with a qualifying cutting score. There are additional opportunities cadets can source to increase their status to be competitive among their peers. Memorizing Leadership Traits will earn cadets 60 bonus points towards their cutting score. Memorizing Southeast Academy Creed is an additional 100 points. Every community service event a cadet attends, or ribbon earned, an additional 20 points will be added to the cadet’s cutting score. There is no limit on community service events, or ribbons cadets can earn during a reporting period. Cadets will learn hard work, commitment and consistency is what’s needed to earn a promotion.
Team Effort
Southeast Academy H.S. is a top tier school because of our Cadets, Teachers, Counselors, Staff, and Families. We are convinced with support every cadet can be successful if they are willing to put in the work.
Commonly overlooked is the fact that our Promotion Ceremony is as much about the attendees as the cadets receiving a promotion. Recognizing rarely, if ever, big accomplishments are not attained single-handedly. We have Teachers, Counselors, Staff and Cadets who helped the cadet with that big project, picked them up when they were down, or helped explain the finer points of some life issue. They have trained, educated, and motivated cadets, often pushing them to accomplish what they believed to be impossible. Most importantly, we have our families, who sacrificed with their cadet to help them reach their goals. Our families have relevance in their cadet accomplishments, please take just as much, if not more, pride in the promotion ceremony for it validates family’s investment in their cadet’s education.
Action Plan
To our families, if your cadet earned a promotion Congratulations! For those cadets who did not receive a promotion, please know many cadets who earned a promotion understand exactly how they feels. If you have ever been passed over for promotion, or denied an opportunity maybe you can relate to that disappointment? Cadet leadership teams will be working with those cadets reflecting and answering questions like: “Why wasn’t I promoted?” “What could I have done differently?” Leadership teams will reflect on daily performances, academics, attendance, and leadership qualities. We want to teach cadets how to seek support. Retrospect offers cadets the opportunity to make corrections and stay away from internalizing the experience as “I’m not good enough to earn a promotion.” Knowing how to deal with disappointment and having an action plan is a bounce back plan for success.
Stay Motivated!
To cadets who did not receive a promotion. Your hard work towards a promotion is NOT a waste of time, nor are you not good enough to promote. Your efforts will help you develop new experiences, and organizational skills. You are a better version of yourself than the 1st day of school, despite not having a new rank or title. Continue to work towards self improvement your efforts will bring you success, failure is not an option!
Sincerely,
MSgt Schafer | Director | Southeast Academy High School

Uniform Information
SEA-Uniforms Up-Date
Galls Uniform Shop, receives uniforms from an outside company who is going through a management restructure. This restructure has cause a shortage in their military uniform. Therefore, Galls is not able to distribute all sizes of the military uniform at this time. We have information the Law Enforcement uniform is in stock. This shortages only applies to the military uniform.
Depending on the size, this may prevent cadets from purchasing their military uniform. Therefore cadets are not required to have their military uniform until they are in stock. Cadets will continue to be in their PT-uniform. If families would like to purchase the Law Enforcement Uniform from Galls, please feel free to do so.
The goal is to have cadets in their Law Enforcement or Military uniform when we return to school after Thanksgiving Break on December 2nd.
If you are able to purchase the identical uniforms from an outside source, please let us know. We want to make sure there are no differences in the uniform items before you purchase.
I appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience. Please call me if you have questions or concerns (562) 210-4700.
Thank you,

Southeast Academy Cadet Captain Chable Speaks to the NLMUSD-Board
Captain Chable Board Presentation
Good evening, Ladies and Gentlemen, Board President Rios, Vice President Brasov Board Members, Interim Superintendent Mr. Santillan, Executive Staff members, families, guests, and fellow cadets.
Let me start by saying that as I sit here today, I am grateful for the experiences and memories this school and district have given me. My name is Jazmin Chable or Captain Chable, I live in the city of Norwalk attending schools within our district.
Attending Southeast Academy has impacted my social experiences, especially for someone who has always been quiet and kept to herself. If you had told me, I would become the Battalion Commander at Southeast Academy I would think you were kidding and started laughing. It's an honor to be here tonight, speaking on the cadets' behalf and about Southeast Academy, It's exciting. Southeast Academy changes people: it gives everyone a unique opportunity to grow and be a better person. Leadership builds confidence and this is what Southeast Academy has done for myself and my fellow cadets. Before attending SEA, I was not a person who would speak my thoughts or opinions. Being part of the school and a leader instilled in me a wide mindset, teaching me the value of collaboration and teamwork. The school has prepared me for the challenges that lie ahead, both academically and personally.
The cadets at Southeast have been very busy. We started the year with Officer and NCO School in July, a ten-day leadership course for returning cadets. This is where we find out what leadership position we will be assigned throughout the year. And also, a chance to come together to build our teams and work on common school goals. The first day of school is so different. At SEA we have morning colors, morning homework, and uniform inspections, and just being prepared for school will challenge new cadets. Because of Officer and NCO school, we are ready to support and remind our new cadets this is what you asked for, so be ready, no excuses.
I would like to highlight some of the school events for the year. On September 5th we had the back-to-school night, it was good to see our families on campus. September 11th our 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony, I know many of you attended, thank you for coming. September 9th US. Marshal Visit, September 16th-20th we had Platoon Wars, a week-long of events coordinated by ASB where platoons compete against each other, a shout out to B/3 on winning the GOLDEN boot. Winning the academic RED boot with the highest GPA out of six platoons is A/1, and for having the best attendance is B/1 earning the BLUE boot. On September 16th we had classes on signs of suicide by our counselors, September 19th Parent Booster Club Meeting. Last week we finished our 1st quarter promotion board. Where cadets are evaluated on eight performance categories and soon cadets will be notified about receiving a new rank or promotion, good luck cadets. Speaking of promotions, on Oct 16th at 8 am we will have our 1st quarter promotion. Everyone is invited, it starts at 8 am.
In conclusion, I am deeply grateful for the valuable experiences and lessons this school has given me. I want to thank the Board of Education for this opportunity. I will carry the memories and learning with me as I step into the next chapter of my life. Thank you.

Southeast Academy 1st Annual Trunk or Treat
Trunk or Treat
Southeast Academy 1st annual Trunk or Treat took place on October 18th from 5pm – 7pm. The event was well organized by Ms. Gasporra and the Public Relation Club. Although it was our first Trunk or Treat this was a school-wide team effort well supported and attended.
This free event included games, face painting, photo booth and other activities, much to the delight of both all “Trunk or Treaters” and their parents. There were over 30 Trunks decorated, the event was able to bring out many community members, allowing us to have a fun experience with family and friends. The Trunk-or-Treat is a heart-warming community event that has great potential. This teaches Southeast Academy cadets the importance of giving back to our younger students, or future cadets in our community. We look forward to next year, making this a Southeast Academy High School tradition with decades of fun.
We like to thank everyone who came out to decorate their trunks and support this event, we hope to see you next year!

It is our responsibility to develop a selfless sense of duty that demands excellence from ourselves and those we lead. When we attain our goal, we will raise our expectations, when we fall short, we will be relentless in our pursuit of excellence.
We will work as a team, lead by example, and inspire others to do so. As cadets we have countless challenges before us, yet we believe that those who succeed at meeting those challenges will have the strongest moral foundation and thus best reflect the
