Madonna Catholic School News
May 9, 2025
Dear Madonna Catholic School Community,
Earlier this week, we had the pleasure of chatting with one of our visiting grandparents from the Linking Generations . Together, we marveled at the exponential growth we’ve seen in our students—academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. At this point in the year, the transformation is nothing short of remarkable.
A heartfelt thank you to you—our parents. Your unwavering support and partnership have been instrumental in nurturing your children’s journey. These strides would not be possible without your collaboration.
This weekend, we pause to honor all mothers, and in a special way, our beloved Mother Mary. We offer this prayer:
Father, we ask for Your blessings on all mothers—present and future. We lift up those who may be struggling in their roles as mothers, those who have experienced loss, and those who are still waiting to be blessed with children. Grant them strength, wisdom, and peace as they navigate the joys and challenges of motherhood. Let them know they are loved, valued, and cherished. Amen.
Wishing you a restful and meaningful weekend,
Mrs. Cathy Hinger, Principal
Mrs. Fiona Wimmer, Assistant Principal

From eggs to chicks!
Our ECS Cholak and Sellinger classes partnered up to bring in some chick eggs last month. The kindergarten students have had so many lessons related to the amazing process of eggs hatching into baby chicks! This unique, hands-on learning opportunity has offered so much more than just watching nature in action. It’s sparked rich conversations about life cycles, encouraged scientific thinking through observation and prediction, and helped build vocabulary around animal development.
Students have also explored early math skills by counting incubation days, measuring chick growth, and comparing sizes. Through writing, drawing, and storytelling, they’ve practiced literacy and creative expression. Most importantly, caring for the chicks has nurtured empathy, responsibility, and a deepened sense of curiosity about the world around them. The staff have also appreciate dpopping in and out to see the progress of these chicks - one tiny peep at a time!

Shoe Drive Winners
These students (along with Julia in ECS Fortier) were the lucky winner's of a range of gift cards from Strathcona County. They each brought in shoes during our campaign in April and had their names drawn from among the many students who helped out. Congratulations to you all an dthank you to the families who supported this event to help divert shoes from ending up in the landfill.
