GISH GLIMPSE
I Behave As Though This Is The Day I Will Be Remembered For.
Principal's Message - October 2021
Happy October! The beginning of September seems soooooooooooooo long ago. We’ve been very busy! E. S. Gish students and staff have already renewed friendships and made new ones. We’re off to a TREMENDOUS start! Gish School is officially “home” to 842 students, and a few new staff members. Welcome to Miss Worthington (Gr. 1), Miss Frank (Gr. 3), and Mr. Moric (Gr. 7/8). We also bid a fond farewell and offer congratulations to Mrs. Wilson (maternity leave), who was promoted as the new Principal of Wild Rose School.
Quite honestly, we wish that COVID-19 was over, but unfortunately, we have moved into our third year… This continues to present difficulties for many students and staff. Please continue to practice kindness! Unless mask exemptions have been granted, ALL Gish School citizens must wear masks while indoors. Please ensure that your child(ren) have masks because our supplies are running out, and we’d rather use school allocations for valuable educational opportunities than to purchase masks.
We are very happy that our junior high students have complementary courses with other grades, and that extra-curricular athletics have returned in junior high. Congratulations to our senior volleyball teams for their success in the SAPEC tournament. At Gish School, we continue to be proud of our global awareness as we develop honorable citizenship skills. Gish School’s Terry Fox Run raised over $614.00 for cancer research. Congratulations Gish School!
Numerous parent groups have already been busy at Gish School. Thanks to all who attended the Gish Parents’ Association (GPA) Meeting, which normally occurs on the first Wednesday of each month (Staff Meeting Day), and begins at 9:30am. This valuable and hardworking group raises several thousand dollars annually to provide many of the extra advantages that Gish School students enjoy throughout the year. We could always use more volunteers! Thanks also to those who have already purchased Little Caesar’s pizza dough GPA.
Gish School Council normally meets at 6:00pm on the third Tuesday of each month. Our next meeting is Oct. 19. Thanks to all who attended. Results of the election:
Co-Chairs: NORA YAGHI and CHRIS CRERAN
Vice-Chairperson: SAEED AHMAD
Secretary: MEHROON CASSADAY
On behalf of Gish School staff, we offer a sincere welcome to all our families. We are proud to be part of St. Albert Public Schools and appreciate everyone’s trust and support. We recognize that we could not enjoy our success without the strong support of our stakeholders!
Yours in partnership,
John Strembitsky - Principal
Sue Werner - Assistant Principal

Students and Parents: Please be reminded that:
Gish School’s playground equipment is OUT OF BOUNDS from 8:30-8:45am, and from 3:00-3:45pm. Also, if children are too sick to be at school, then they are too sick to be on the playground, even with parent supervision!
ALL Gish School citizens must wear masks in common areas (hallways, classrooms, washrooms, etc.)
Student Arrival and Departure:
-Please continue to drop off students no sooner than 8:30am and pick up students by 3:30pm, as there will be no supervision of students before 8:30am and after 3:30pm.
-Covid Protocols also prohibit indoor gatherings of larger numbers. Students may not be present in Gish School without supervision.
-Students will be expected to enjoy outdoor time prior to 8:30am and after 3:30pm. We sincerely appreciate parents dropping off in the double “private vehicle lane” in the morning, and not entering Gish property at all in the afternoon, until all buses have departed near 3:40pm.
-Thanks for your continued cooperation.
School Clothing Order:
We have not ordered Gish School clothing for a few years. We have done our best to find high quality garments at a reasonable price. A two-colour “Gish WARRIORS” logo will be featured on all items. T-shirt and pull-over hoodies will have the full logo on the front, and the zippered hoodie will have the full logo on the back. Sweatpants will have “WARRIORS” down the leg. Please ensure that your order is received by October 27 in order to have items delivered during the week of Dec. 13-17, in time for the winter break. We suggest that the items for your children could be part of their gifts, for those who celebrate Christmas.
