Next Week: 4th & 5th Grade Open House
On Thursday, Oct 3 at 5:30 PM, we invite all 4th and 5th grade students and their families to come to school and learn more about their child's teachers, academic goals, specials classes, and school programs. We would love to see all 4th and 5th grade families attend and continue building a strong school-home relationship with this year’s teachers.
Homecoming - Friday, Oct. 4
Pep Rally
The IC will be having our very own Pep Assembly Friday morning in the HS Viking Stadium.
If possible, please have your students wear red, black or white to school. It’s so exciting to see our Mount Horeb school spirit when everyone dresses up!
We recommend students wear athletic shoes in case they need to “Jump Around.”
Any makeup (i.e. writing MHB or Go Vikings on their cheek) and hair color must be applied at home, not at school. Students may not cover their entire face in face paint.
The pep rally is a school event for students, so families are not allowed to attend. However, the parade is a community event for all to enjoy and families are more than welcome to attend that.
Parade at 2:45 PM
Parade Expectations
- Students need to stay with their class during the parade.
- Classes will be seated on the north side of Garfield St (on the MS side of the street).
- Students may not go into the street if candy is thrown.
Parade Pick Up
- Before the parade, provide a note to the teacher sharing your child's plan. (This will NOT count towards the 10 day absence rule.)
- If you choose to join your child at the parade, we respectfully ask that you distance yourself from the class.
- After the parade, the parent needs to make visual contact with their student’s teacher at pick up to sign them out. If you can, stop by and check-in.
- Staff will release students to parents or other designees identified in Infinite Campus. If your child is going home with another adult, this needs to be included in the note to the teacher.
Dismissal - Students who are walking home or riding the bus need to return to school for regular dismissal.
Football Game at 7:00 PM
If you and your student choose to attend the Homecoming football game on Friday evening, please keep in mind:
Elementary-aged students must be accompanied by an adult to enter the sports complex.
Elementary-aged students must remain with that supervising adult during the entire game. Students should be seated with that adult in the designated seating areas.
Help Needed: Drop Off and Pick Up
We need your help in the front loop!
- Watch for pedestrians in the crosswalks. Staff and students use them daily, and we've had some close calls with cars!
- Slow down. We know it gets congested, but we need everyone moving cautiously.
- Use the full driveway. Lots of cars stop as close to the front doors as possible, but we have a lot more room down the driveway. Please pull all the way forward before stopping. This will give more room for those behind you.
- Park in the parking lot if you need more time to say goodbye to your child or review the plan for the day.
- Remember, drop off begins at 7:40 AM. Students may not arrive before then.
Report, Don't Repost
When a concern arises online, the BEST thing you can do is report it. Reposting continues to spread harm to the community.
Speak Up, Speak Out is a free statewide threat reporting tipline available to all Wisconsin schools, providing students with immediate, accessible confidential adult support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. SUSO harnesses the power of bystanders, addresses concerns early, and provides opportunities for early intervention and harm prevention. SUSO gives students a tool to break the culture of silence and connect with adults who can help.
How to report:
* Call 911 if this is an emergency or a crime in progress.
* Go to https://speakup.widoj.gov/ and “Submit a Tip”
* Download the Speak Up, Speak Out app from the Apple Store or Google Play
* Call 1-800-MY-SUSO-1 to speak to a live, trained SUSO Analyst (does not receive texts)
* Text “SUSO” to 738477 to receive a link to our anonymous P3 tip form

Celebrations and Food
Celebrating together is an important part of building community as a class and as a whole school. Each year, classes have four parties: a fall party, a winter party, a friendship party, and an end of the year party. Classes will plan their events and may reach out to families to bring in treats, healthy snacks, and/or drinks. All health needs will be planned around.
Each month, we have additional school-wide celebrations including dress up days selected by our Student Council and events planned by our PBIS committee such as Winter Break Bingo.
To align with the district wellness policy, classes will honor the birthday celebrants with non-food activities such singing Happy Birthday, choosing a Go Noodle brain break, playing a game, offering birthday wishes, etc. The student and family celebrating the birthday may bring in small non-food gifts to share with the class if they wish.

Help Us Raise Money With Box Tops!
Every little bit helps, and there's no more cutting out!
Use the Box Tops for Education app to submit your receipt (paper or digital) and select the IC. We get $0.10 for every General Mills item you submit, and sometimes there are great bonuses for $4 or $5. Check out what products qualify here.
We use the money raised for school celebrations and recess equipment like kickballs, basketballs, chalk, etc. We'd really appreciate your support in this program. Thank you for considering!!
