Cross Country
We're excited to share that our cross country team performed exceptionally well at the regional meet on Tuesday. Florence was proudly represented, and the future looks promising, with five of our seven athletes returning for both the boys' and girls' teams next year.
Our athletes are not just satisfied; they’re motivated to take the next step as we move into track season. A special shoutout goes to Erick, who qualified for the state cross country meet in Round Rock! He’ll be racing on Saturday, November 2nd, at 10 AM. Erick has put in an incredible amount of work to reach this point, and he’s eager for his final state meet in high school.
Please join us in congratulating all our athletes for their hard work and achievements this season!

Florence FFA wins BIG at Nationals!
Congratulations to freshmen Sofie Ginsburg and Faith Crow for being named National Champions for their "Cracking the Case" Agriscience Fair project! They walked the stage on Thursday evening in Indianapolis and brought home yet another National Championship award to add to Florence FFA's illustrious accomplishments!
We are also very proud of freshmen Sterling Arldt and Lilly Fisher, who earned 4th Place at Nationals for their "Are You Gellin'?" Agriscience Fair Project! They walked the Lucas Oil Stadium stage Friday morning and represented FHS in a very positive light!
All of these ladies worked hard over the summer on their projects and should be so proud of this major accomplishment! Just another example of FHS students being #ALL IN!
Congratulations to our FHS Buffalo Band!
To say we are proud of our Buff Band is an understatement for sure. Our band students had a great performance at the UIL Area-D Contest placing 12th out of 27. The top ten bands advanced to the finals, and we barely missed it. We have made steady gains each year…hold your heads high as you are all winners to us.
Congratulations Volleyball!
The Lady Buffs Varsity Volleyball team defeated Brady 3 - 1 on Friday night, great job ladies!
Self Direct
Self-Direction is the ability and learned skill to cast a vision of future goals and then take intentional steps toward who, where, and what we want to be. Instead of focusing on things to control or avoid, we emphasize our responsibility to make positive choices related to our emotions, attitudes, and actions. One way to do this is to be an upstander instead of a bystander. An upstander self-directs and is a friend when someone needs a friend. A bystander may watch things happen that they know are not right, but they do not step up to help.

Fall Canned Food Drive for Thanksgiving/Christmas
One of the core values we stress at Florence High School is "Service." Each year, our campus is one of the largest contributors to the Fall Community Food Drive that serves the Florence area for Thanksgiving and Christmas. This year we are changing up the competition - instead of homeroom classes competing against one another, students will be competing by their grade level in conjunction with the Clash of the Classes competition. Cans should be turned into the front office so office staff can log in the results by each grade level. Parents may drop off cans during school hours (just let the office staff know which grade you're donating toward) and we encourage as much participation as possible so we can once again help feed the Florence community over the holiday season! This is another opportunity to show that we are #ALLIN!
Texas Oranges
Texas Oranges are here! Orange blight has been affecting California and Florida keeping oranges from being in our cafeterias. Kids often ask if Texas Oranges are lemons because of their lighter coloration. However, once you eat one you realize that you have just eaten the world's best orange.
The blemishes found on the skin are called Sun Kisses. They are due to the fruit rubbing against branches in the warm south Texas breezes. Because 98% of the fruit stays in Texas the fruit is allowed to ripen longer on the tree as opposed to ripening on a truck with the help of Ethelyn Gas.
You and your kids should be seeing Texas Citrus from now until early Spring.
