Weekly Update to Families
October 11, 2024
Message from the Principal
Goodwater Families,
I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable break! We look forward to welcoming students back on campus on Tuesday, October 15th.
Parent Conferences will be held on Monday, October 14th, during your scheduled meeting time with your guide. We’re excited to share your student’s progress and discuss their academic goals.
According to a study by Dr. Gail Matthews at Dominican University, writing down goals increases the likelihood of achieving them by 42%. Additionally, those who set time-bound goals and engage in weekly progress reporting see a 40% boost in success compared to those who don’t.
Please take a moment to discuss your student’s academic goals and their plans to achieve them.

Movie Night Donations
Double Your Giving
We wanted to share a great way to maximize the impact of your donations to our school! Many employers offer matching gift or grant programs, where they will match your charitable contributions dollar for dollar.
By signing up for your company's matching gift program, your future donations could go twice as far. For example, if you donate $25, your employer could match that amount, turning your $25 into $50 for our school!
We encourage you to check with your HR department or employer's benefits portal to see if this option is available. It’s an easy way to make a big difference, and it only takes a few minutes to sign up. You can click the link below to check an alphabetical list of employers who participate in the matching program.
Thank you for your continued support in making our school a great place for our children to learn and grow.
Here is the list of participating employees in alphabetical order.
Book It!
This year our classroom is participating in the BOOK IT! Program to encourage your child to find the joy in reading. The mission of the program is to turn “have to read” into “want to read” and the only way to get better at reading is to take the time to do it! Below is how the program works, along with ideas on how you can get involved at home. Please be sure to confirm your approval using the code from the parent approval letter I will be sending to you.
Theme of the Month - Resilience- October
What is Resilience?
- Being resilient refers to someone who can quickly recover from setbacks, stress, adverse situations or unexpected changes.
Why Focus on Resilience?
- Resilience gives us the strength to bounce back from challenges in life. And we all face hardships at some point in life. But those who develop resilience can tap into their strengths and support systems. This gives us the best chance to overcome challenges and work through problems.
Resilience In Action
- Acknowledge and affirm acts of resilience. Publicly praise a student who models resilience.
Montessori Moment.....
Developing Obedience
Developing Obedience:
Your child is now sometimes capable of following commands. They can sometimes understand and sometimes comply, but not always.
Their movements and minds are beginning to obey their will. Your child is starting to make the connection between their actions and the results of their movements. They still largely act on impulse but are beginning to be able to see the correlation between their actions and the consequences of those actions.
Support Your Child's Will and Obedience
Be Consistent- Follow natural consequences Create a daily routine for your child with your
child Instead of "No ", gently redirect your child to the routine to encourage independent thinking.
Be Patient - Give your child time to complete tasks.
Be Gentle- Speak kindly and at eye level with your Child Give gentle suggestions and
redirection to help your child to remember routines and Procedures Let your child know that it is okay to try again.
Be Organized - Use open shelves for their Toys Make the kitchen accessible to your child.
Give Freedom Within Limits - Limit choices, Make clothing accessible, Give choices rather
than lists, and prepare, your child for their choices as they grow, towards independent thinking.
