The purpose of this newsletter is to provide professional development, support and resources to foster adult learning and student achievement. You will find offerings from Instructional Support Services, Distance Learning and Model Schools Teams.

Welcome Michael Perry!

Michael has been teaching at G. Ray Bodley high school in Fulton for 15 years. Born and raised in Oswego, he earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degree from Oswego State. He is currently working on his CAS through Le Moyne.

There will be separate meetings for grade levels K-5 and 6-12. The math network meetings will be for those interested in learning about information shared at the statewide framework group meetings, as well as support for the following: instructional practices, math content & grade specific resources, NYSED updates, and aligning current curriculum to the Next Generation Learning Standards.

The first math network meeting for grades K-5 will be held virtually on October 25th from 2:00pm - 3:00pm. Visit my learning plan to register.

As we consider our educational spaces, let's consider how the design of our spaces are conducive for social and emotional learning. Together we will explore the latest research on grouping, mindfulness corners/spaces, and even plants. Yes, plants. Research from Australia, the UK, and the Netherlands found that there are positive long-term effects of office plants. More specifically the study "found greenery significantly increases workplace satisfaction in employees (and students), heightens self-reported concentration levels, and improves perceived air quality.” Indoor plants can increase happiness, productivity, and even relieve stress which can have positive health benefits. We have partnered with DCMO BOCES to continue growing our list of virtual opportunities for this school year. Like all of you, our artists are working hard to modify and adapt to the changing learning environment and are continuously adding new enrichment opportunities that can now be enjoyed virtually. We currently have over 80 high-quality virtual opportunities for students and schools to enjoy with more being added daily. Kelli Johnson from The Reading League is presenting an asynchronous webinar focused on whether or not instructional resources are aligned with the science of reading and determine if they have the green light to use with all learners, if they can be redeemed with some tweaks, or whether they need to be abandoned completely.
