November 2024 Newsletter
Nov 6 - Dec 3, 2024
From Principal Larama
Happy November, Jackson Community!
November is a great season to focus on thankfulness and gratitude. I am grateful to be able to work with the school community. We have amazing students, parents, and staff. I am thankful for your continuing support and encouragement for your children. It has been fun seeing you meeting with your teachers at conferences this week; I hope you heard a lot about the learning your child(ren) are making at Jackson Elementary. We cannot do this work without you and appreciate everything you do!
We have seen a shift in the weather recently with more cold and wet days. Please remember to send your children to school well dressed for the weather with coats, warm hats and gloves, and appropriate shoes.
We also want to stress the importance of daily, on time attendance. Thank you for helping us maintain a pretty consistent 94% daily on-time attendance rate. Attending school on time each day is one of the single most important things you can do to ensure your child's academic success in school. Please reach out if you are having any attendance related challenges.
As the season of giving thanks and the beginning of our winter weather arrives, I hope you can all find the time to stop and reflect on the many wonderful things in our lives. I want to thank all our parents and guardians for the love and support you give your children to be successful learners and kind and caring young individuals at Jackson. Your support makes a significant difference in their success at here.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving season and stay happy and healthy. Thank you for everything you do!
Darren Larama
β From the Counselors π
Families,
As we move into November, our counseling department has completed lessons in 3rd-5th grades of our Second Step Bullying Prevention curriculum. Over the next two weeks we will review assessment data to know if our teaching resulted in student learning and acquisition of skills.
We continue to press ahead with Second Step classroom guidance in Kindergarten-2nd grade. Kindergarten took a detour the last month to learn Kelsoβs Choices problem solving curriculum. We plan to start the classroom kit version of the Second Step curriculum in 3rd-5th grade, in the next week.
The units will proceed as follows:
- Unit 1:Skills for Learning
- Unit 2: Empathy
- Unit 3: Emotion Management
- Unit 4: Problem Solving
Community Support:
We have a limited number of coats! If your family is experiencing financial hardship, and unable to provide a warm coat for your student, we have a limited number of coats to give. Please call the main office, Terry Coleman (425) 385-5610 or Annie Carmona (425) 385-5609 to coordinate receiving a coat.
Your counseling team,
Terry and Annie

Scholastic Book Fair
Monday, Nov 4 - 8:30 am - 6:30 pm
Tuesday, Nov 5 - 8:30 am - 4:00 pm
Wednesday, Nov 6 - 3:30 - 4:30 pm
Thursday, Nov 7 - 3:30 - 4:30 pm
Dear Families,
Get readyβthe Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. And fostering a love of independent reading leads to a wide variety of benefitsβincluding academic success and improved mental health.
Many of us still remember the rush of finding the perfect book at a Scholastic Book Fair. I hope youβll join your child at our schoolβs Fair and share a reading experience theyβll remember forever.
Happy reading,
Mrs. Stacy Gay, Librarian
