From Ms. O's Desk
Dear Quetzal Families,
Exciting Events Coming Up at Mistral! We’re getting closer to our wonderful Día del Niño celebration at Mistral! On Friday, April 25th, we’ll be honoring our incredible students with fun and festivities. We hope you can join us in celebrating this joyful tradition! We’re also looking for volunteers to help make the event extra special. If you’re available to support, please let me know. Your help is greatly appreciated!
Walk and Roll to Mistral – Monday, April 21st
Get ready to lace up those sneakers, walk, hop on a bike, or grab a skateboard! We’re encouraging all students to walk, bike, or roll to school next Monday. Students who participate will receive a ticket to an ice cream party in May! To be counted, students must enter through one of the three front gates of the school. We can’t wait to see many of our students take part in this healthy and eco-friendly event!
Earth Day Celebration – Wednesday, April 23rd
We’ll be celebrating Earth Day with hands-on arts and crafts that inspire students to care for our amazing planet. This is a great opportunity to raise awareness and encourage eco-friendly habits. Let’s keep working together to protect our environment! Thank you, ELAC Committee, for making this happen!
Spring Music Concerts Are Coming!
We are thrilled to invite you to our upcoming music concerts! A big thank you to MVEF for making music and arts a vibrant part of our students’ education. Please check your child’s backpack for a flyer with the concert dates and times for your child’s class. Here are a few to note:
-
Mr. Acosta’s students and 5th graders – April 29th
-
Mr. Washington’s students – May 9th
We look forward to seeing you there to celebrate our students’ musical talents!
Friendly Reminder: No Toys at School
Just a quick reminder that toys should stay at home. We kindly ask for your help in ensuring your child does not bring toys to school, as they can be a distraction during the school day. Thank you for your support and understanding!

MVWSD is launching a two-year process to update math curriculum based on the latest research and best practices for math education. Our math curriculum was last adopted in 2015, and math placement criteria hasn’t been updated since 2021-22. To make this process inclusive, we’re seeking input from students, staff, and parents on math curriculum, instruction, pathways, assessments, and placement.
MVWSD is seeking parent and community input through a virtual focus group on April 23 at 4:00 pm. If you are interested in joining this focus group, please click the link to apply no later than April 17.
