Gilberts Elementary
Virtual Backpack - Week of September 9th
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Parents,
Our school year is off to a great start! As I walk in and out of classrooms, I hear and see children engaging in learning activities and you can’t help but feel the excitement of our learning environment. It really has been an exciting time for all of us. Our staff continues to be grateful to our families for their ongoing support.
Thank you to all of you who participated in our Curriculum Night! I hope that you found the evening full of information about the curriculum your student(s) will study and other important information related to their classroom and
school day. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher directly.
I invite you to connect with our GES PTO. This group of active and involved parents supports our school through grant funding, family activities, spirit wear sales and other events that enhance the culture of our school. Our PTO parents have always been wonderful supporters of our students and teachers. Currently the PTO is getting ready to launch our fall fundraiser and a very exciting night at Santa's Village. This year we will be participating in the Raise Craze. This fundraiser helps earn funds for our building as well as encourage students to do acts of kindness. There are flyers in our Virtual Backpack that show more information. You can always check out the PTO website for upcoming events and opportunities to volunteer as they have lots of great activities for this upcoming year!
Stay safe and take care of one another!

Nurse's Notes
As a reminder, Illinois law permits students to carry and possess inhalers to treat asthma. We highly encourage all students to have their inhalers with them at all times and to provide the school nurse with an additional back-up inhaler as well. We also ask you to please provide the school nurse with an Asthma Action Plan, signed by your healthcare provider. Asthma Action Plans are available on the D300 website under “Health Services.” Please contact Nurse Carrie at (224)484-5911 for additional questions or information.

Now That I Can Read
I used to need somebody
To sit and read to me.
I’d look at every page they read
And listen carefully.
But now I am in first grade.
I’m filling up a shelf
With stories, poems, and other books
That I can read myself.
