A Note from Mrs. Kopperud and Ms. Abreo
Dear Adventure Families,
Welcome back from Spring Break! For our older students, April is known as testing month. Students in grades 3-6 will participate in the Colorado Measures of Academic Success exams in the middle of the month. Please look carefully at the testing calendar below and assure your child is here on time and well-rested for each day of testing.
This week, students in grades 4, 5, and 6 attended an author visit with Lindsey Lackey, author of "Farther than the Moon." This fictional story tells about two brothers' wish to travel to the moon; one of the brothers has cerebral palsy, and Ms. Lackey's story addresses the theme of inclusion, too. Her message students was very inspirational and taught them how to "learn to think like an astronaut":
1. Set goals.
2. Your decisions now will matter in the future.
3. Learn to control your emotions.
4. Admit your mistakes and talk about them.
5. Be a good crewmate.
See our group photo below this message!
With the weather getting nice, we're noticing an increase in students getting dropped off early and picked up late. Please remember that students are not allowed unsupervised before 7:50 or after 3:20. School staff are not available to watch students outside of these hours. Additionally, please refrain from parking on the west side of Conifer in the turn lane to enter our parking lot.
Later in the month, we are hosting a Spring Family Open House event on Thursday, April 17 from 4:30-6:30. Students will have demonstrations of learning and there will be Lotería and the Scholastic Book Fair. Sign up to volunteer at the Book Fair! Please save the date and look for more details soon!
Lastly, planning is well under way for Adventure's Fiesta Cultural on Thursday, May 1. This event will celebrate Día del niño and el Cinco de mayo. There will be games, food, music, face painting, and more! Save the date!
Saludos,

Dual Language Corner
Adventure Elementary hosted the first Mapleton Dual Language Committee, which includes both district and school leaders, on Tuesday, March 25th. The purpose of the committee is to provide guidance and support for the development, implementation, and evaluation of effective dual language programs within the district. The first meeting centered on both historical and current information about Adventure Elementary’s Dual Language Program, including our strengths and potential areas for growth. Grounding in this information allows the committee to have a common foundation of understanding about Adventure's Dual Language Program moving forward. Our next meeting will focus on either Special Education in a Dual Language setting or Dual Language Assessment. We have a lot to celebrate at Adventure and we are excited to continue this important work!
Eye Love Care SUCCESS!
In early March, just over 200 students participated in the "No Vision Left Beyond" program. This week, over 80 of those students received their first pair of free prescription lenses, with more to arrive next week, hopefully! These students were so excited to pick out a new pair of glasses and several exclaimed "I can see now!" We are so grateful for this new partner, Eye Love Care, and to Adventure's Health Assistant, Iris Valenzuela, for coordinating this care for students.
Spanish Spelling Bee and Science Fair Results
On March 10 and then again on March 11, Adventure students gathered for our school's first Concurso de deletreo (Spanish Spelling Bee). Over the course of two days, totalling nearly 3 hours, the results are in! Congratulations to Aritzy (4th), Daniel (4th), and Juliana (4th)!

Staff Spotlight
Mr. Julio Riebeling, Kindergarten
As a kindergarten teacher, he relates and makes meaningful relationships with his students by learning and talking about things that interest his students such as video games, cartoons, shows, movies, and anime. When he's not dressed up like an Adventure Bilingual Superhero, he can frequently be found playing and laughing with his students; learning in his classroom is FUN!
Mr. Riebeling is proud to have represented Adventure at "La cosecha" this fall, the largest dual language teachers' conference in the country. He is particularly interested in trying new teaching practices in his classroom and gained new ideas that he's using with his students to support their learning. Mr. Riebeling is also proud to have nominated as an Adventure Employee of the Month this past fall.
