🎸 Rockin' into November with Our Mavs!🎸
Dear Memorial Families,
As we settle into November, I’d like to remind you that there will be no school on Tuesday, November 5th. We hope you and your families enjoy the extra time together!
We have two exciting events this month that we’d love for our families to join:
- Veteran's Day Program: Monday, November 11th. Join us as we honor those who have served.
- Thanksgiving Lunch: Thursday, November 21st. Come celebrate and enjoy a special meal with your child!
Further details for both events are included below, so be sure to check them out.
I also want to encourage you to stay informed with the updates Dr. Rapp is sharing regarding possible boundary adjustments that may impact Memorial. She shared a message on Friday, November 1st, with all LISD families, outlining the district's current discussions on potential campus retirements and boundary adjustments aimed at increasing facility efficiency.
No decisions have been finalized, but the LISD Board anticipates making determinations by December, with any changes to take effect in the 2025-26 school year. As part of the next phase, a series of Listening Tour meetings will be held across the district to gather feedback. For those in our area, a session will be held at TCHS Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, Nov. 13, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
This is an opportunity for families to share thoughts and stay engaged in the process. Dr. Rapp’s updates provide more information on how you can participate and voice your feedback.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our Memorial community. Let’s make it a great month together!

Request for Paper Administration of STAAR
2024-2025 Spring STAAR & End-of-Course (EOC) Paper by Request (HB 1225)
House Bill 1225 provides a new optional process for school districts to provide a paper administration of a STAAR assessment to any student whose parent, guardian, or teacher requests a paper version. A request for a paper administration of spring STAAR High School EOCs and spring STAAR grades 3-8 must be submitted by 4 PM on December 1st and will be considered on a first come, first serve basis. The number of students who are provided a Paper by Request administration of STAAR may not exceed 3% of the number of eligible students testing. Applicants will be notified of status by 4 PM on December 13, 2024.
If a student receives Special Education or 504 services and is requesting a paper test, please contact the appropriate campus ARD or 504 committee. There is a different process and form for those requests.
If you have any questions, please contact the LISD Assessment department at 972-350-0960
We've had a new Maverick join our family since our October newsletter went out. Meet her below:
Haley Sellers, Permanent Substitute
We’re excited to introduce our new permanent substitute, Mrs. Sellers! Born in Dallas, TX, Mrs. Sellers spent much of her childhood in Scotland and has an adventurous spirit. She and her husband, Drew, recently celebrated three years of marriage and even spent a year teaching English in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. With a B.S. in Marketing, she’s now pursuing her Alternate Teaching Certification, driven by her passion for education and dedication to shaping future leaders. In her free time, Mrs. Sellers loves thrifting, baking, traveling, crafting, and embracing new hobbies like reading and sewing. We’re thrilled to have her join our Memorial Elementary family!

Book Beats with Mr. Dickerson, Librarian
Read Across Memorial
Thank you to all of our family members that volunteered to read during our 4th Annual Read Across Memorial event! Everyone had a blast and heard some fantastic stories, and I loved hearing reports of how many parents enjoyed the experience. It wouldn't have been possible without your support, so thank you from the bottoms of our hearts!
Memorial Library Ornament Challenge
The library challenge for November and December is to decorate or create an ornament from scratch that is reading or book character themed or STEM focused. The attached flier will be going home in Tuesday Newsday folders with more information along with overdue notices, so be sure to look out for those as well.
Also, any students working on their Texas Legends Reading challenge should have that completed and turned into the library by November 8th. The next reading challenge will be running November 13th - December 16th.
We also have our normal reading challenges that students can complete alongside of the Texas Legends Reading Challenge where students can win Mav Money and prizes.
Health Hits from Nurse Terri
Happy Fall Y'all
Wow! It's so hard to believe it is already November! I want to share a few things with for this Month
- In the month of November, I will be doing Vision and Hearing Rescreens and if a students fails the screening/screenings x 2, I will send home a referral. There is a portion on the referral form that the Dr. needs to fill out. Please return that to me.
- I want to share with you that we have a new Medication Policy for over the counter medications that your child might need for a few days for after a dental procedure or a sprain or break, etc. Please call me before bringing those medications and I will let you know if I have a Standing Order for that medication or if I will need to have you fill out a form and have the Dr. write the orders. You can reach me at 972-350-1211.
- Also, if your child has medication in the clinic that is an as needed medication( ie. inhaler) and your child is in need of it everyday at a certain time for a few days, I can no longer take that in a note from a parent; I have to have a Dr's written order. Please call me with any questions.
- Please do not send any medication in your child's back pack. At the elementary level, students are not allowed to transport medication in their back packs or lunch boxes. The parent must bring any medication that is needed to the nurse and we will get the correct paperwork filled out.
- If your child has an injury or has surgery and has Dr. restrictions, please forward those to me, so I can let all the child's teachers know.
- Please feel free to call( 972-350-1211) or email me(lowryt@lisd.net) with any questions!

Amplifying Voices with Mrs. Pasley, LAS
Hello Parents!
It was a pleasure meeting many of you at our first Parent University for Parents of Emergent Bilinguals. If you missed the session, here is a copy of our slideshow. After viewing, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at pasleyk@lisd.net.
Below you will find a link that will direct you to released and practice TELPAS tests! There are no required login credentials for use. You may print the test or have your student complete it online. Having them practice for at least 15-30 minutes a day will build their testing stamina, while being introduced to and becoming familiar with the test.
