Halloween Costumes for School
Halloween is around the corner and that means a fun time to dress up in our costumes!
Please remember all costumes need to be school appropriate.
Which means:
- No Masks
- No Fake Blood
- No Weapons of any kind
It would be a good idea to send an extra change of clothes in your child's backpack just in case their costume becomes too much and they want to change into something more comfortable.
Scholastic Book Fair!
Dear Families:
Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them on their journey to becoming lifelong readers. AND—as always—every purchase at the Fair benefits our school.
Here’s what you need to know about the big event, which will take place from Wednesday, October 18th – Friday, October 20th and from Monday, October 23rd – Wednesday, October 25th, 2023, at Aumsville Elementary School in the PTC Room in front of the 3-5 building. Hours: Before School from 7:30 am – 8:30 am and from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
Say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet—your child’s digital payment account. Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can contribute! Share each child’s eWallet so friends and family can add funds and give your kids more books to enjoy.
If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Book Fair online. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Every online purchase will also benefit our school.
Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:

3, 2, 1…Book Fair!
The countdown is ON to the best day of the year!
We are excited to host our annual fall book fair. For more information, please visit the Book Fair Home Page at https://www.scholastic.com/bf/aumsville.
eWallet
eWallet is the way to pay so Don’t forget to sign up for your eWallet. No more bills stuffed in backpacks! Kids shop without cash thanks to eWallet, a digital payment account for purchases at the Fair. Family and friends contribute funds. Then kids choose their own books. It’s convenient, simple, and secure.
How does it work?
It starts on your school’s Book Fair homepage. A child’s family follows a link to create a free eWallet account. There are three ways to fund an account: Add money with a credit card, use funds from a previous eWallet, or invite friends and extended fam to contribute. Because funds are available immediately, a child can shop the Fair with eWallet right away. Families can use a leftover balance to fund an eWallet for a future Fair.
The bigger the eWallet, the more kids read so share your eWallet link with Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, and anyone else who’d love to contribute to your kid’s library.

Read Every Day Program!
Read Every Day is off to a great start! Thank you to those of you who are already participating and for anyone who has not received a Read Every Day Envelope, please let your child's classroom teacher know so we can get them started.
Read Every Day is a program we have started at Aumsville to get students to read every day. As part of this program, students select 5 books to read during the week and put them in their Read Every Day envelope. They will need to read aloud to a parent/guardian and get a parent/guardian’s signature after reading for at least 15 minutes each day. One day counts as one signature. Once their form is completed, they can return their slip, along with their 5 books, to get a prize. They can then check out five new books to begin the process again.
They can read any book as long as they are reading for at least 15 minutes per day. We have had an overwhelming response from students and families and are working through the challenges of meeting the demands of so many excited readers. To help cut down on traffic congestion we have moved into the kindergarten hallway. We are open from 7:30-7:55. Get here early because the line can get long!
Please remember:
- Students must read for 5 different days
- Students must read for at least 15 minutes each day
- Each signature collected must be for a different day
- Prizes are awarded when a student has 5 signatures for 5 different days of reading 15 min/ea.
We could use some extra help in the mornings with the books and prizes. If you are interested in volunteering contact Ms. Scholl at Jscholl@cascade.k12.or.us
Happy Reading!

Volunteers
It truly takes an “all hands on deck” mentality to run a school effectively. If you are interested in volunteering in your student’s class, chaperoning a field trip, or helping out behind the scenes, please begin the background check process found here or on the Cascade School District website on the “parents and students” page.
The background check process takes two-four weeks, is completely free, and lasts for two years. We recommend completing this early in the school year so as to avoid delay.
You no longer need to provide proof of COVID vaccination in order to volunteer.
Second Grade Team
These terrific second grade teachers have been teaching for 61 years combined. They attended Concordia University, Western Oregon University, Purdue University, Corban University, California State University Stanislaus and received degrees in Bachelors of Art in Early Child Education, Masters of Science in Teaching with an ESOL endorsement, Bachelors of Science in K12 Education, Bachelors of Liberal Arts, Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education.
They have been at Aumsville Elementary for a combined 34 years but haven't always been teachers.
These were their very first jobs..... Thomas - Worked at B&Js accessories selling hair clips and she had her very own business cards! Blythe - Served meals and washed dishes in the Marion Retirement Home. She was only 17! Garcia - Worked at a fire station through the Explorers Program. They even let him suit up and fight fires! Woody - Served coffee as a barista while in college. She gave everyone extra whipped cream.

Compliment Corner
Too often we underestimate the power of a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn life around. If you would like to publically compliment someone at Aumsville Elementary or a community partner at an Aumsville Elementary event, you may do so here.
The compliment will show up in the next Panther Periodical!
PTC and AES Admin: Thank you for organizing lunch and dinner for staff during the last few days. The food was delicious and we appreciate the thought that went into both meals! ~Mrs. Miller
Stephanie Moll, Kristin Camillo, Heidi Lung, Nicole Pries: Thank you for providing dinner for our teachers on their VERY long 12hr conference day. The food was delicious, and allowed several of us a small moment to gather and eat together. That time together was priceless.
Terra Blythe: You are so kind, patient, and caring. You are the calm in the storm that all children need. You are doing an amazing job!
Morning Welcoming Committee: I see staff during arrival (at the doors and at the bus/car drop off line) greeting kids every single morning as they walk in. I see kids going from sad/tired to happy and ready to start the day. I am so thankful I know my student is being kindly greeted every morning. Thank you everyone.
Holly Petersen: You are one of our families most favorite people on the planet. You have helped me instil a love for books, and reading in my children. That love is something they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. You are the best!
Kelly Cromwell: You are so dedicated to the kids and families at Aumsville. All the time and work you put in does not go unnoticed. You are the reason our school is so amazing. Thank you!!!
Mrs. Lee: You are always so kind, approachable and helpful! You help set the tone of a really caring community in the 3-5 building! Thank you!
