CMS Toppers: News From the Middle!

Caroff's Corner
Topper families,
I had the prvilige this week of attending and participating in the Chardon Area Chamber of Commerace State of the Schools Presentation. BUT...I have to say our students stole the show! Their enthusiasm, engagement and public speaking skills were on full display as they spoke with adults about robotics, their source of strength, our P.E. curriculum, technology they work with, and the Arthur Holden Leadership Institute I continue to be impressed with the caliber of student we have at CMS and tell many how lucky I am to witness it.
Here are the students that represented their families, our school and most importantly themselves extremely well:
Kimberly Ankenman, John Janus, Kate Siko, Reese Montgomery, Hadley Clark, Paul Ermino, Michael Moll, Dylan Perry, Olivia Fisher, Debbie Bright, Violet Schubert, Michael Mele, Ben Dolsen, Adelynne Baird, SJ Moore, Katie Brinkley, and Liam Wludyga
Thank you as well to our amazing staff who guided our students and prepared them to do so well:
Mrs. Kate Collins, Mrs. Janelle Stuart, Mr. Brent Hilston, Mrs. NIkki Diehm, Mrs. Bev Mysyk, Mrs. Julie Kenny and Ms. Kayla O'Brien
How did we end the week? With Baseball Day of course! Our 7th grade students closed out a great experience with Math, specifically statistics and analysis with a fun and engaging day that included our high school baseball team sharing how they use stats and analytics to make decisions on how to approach future games in their reason (as well as a little fun with the movie The Sandlot and enjoying some dogs with condiments). A huge SHOUT OUT to Mrs. Curitore and Mrs. Steinmetz for mapping out a phenomenal experience for all Toppers!
Keep enjoying the sunshine,
Craig Caroff

NEW INFO: Chardon Middle School Student Council
Dear Parents and Students,
We are pleased to announce the commencement of the 2024-2025 Student Council. Below, you will find all the relevant information regarding the application process and the requirements for joining the student council. Student council has significantly changed this year, and we intend to have a dedicated representative from each FLEX class. This approach will allow us to effectively distribute meeting information, discuss various topics, and plan upcoming events.
Student council will convene once a month for after-school meetings from 2:45 to 3:30. Please note that attendance at these after-school meetings is mandatory. The last day to fill out the application will be SEPTEMBER 24, 2024 at 3:30 pm.
The selection process will involve each flex class conducting an election. Students will be required to deliver a 30-second to 1-minute speech outlining why they would be an ideal representative for their class. The election is scheduled for September 27, 2024, and will be conducted through an anonymous vote within each class. The elected representatives will be notified of the outcome the following week.
It is important to highlight that nominated candidates must maintain good academic standing and refrain from any disciplinary issues. Individuals who accumulate too many strikes, face suspensions, or consistently find themselves in trouble will be asked to step down from the student council.
We appreciate your attention to these guidelines and look forward to a successful and productive student council school year.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a great weekend.
Miss Kayla O’Brien

*New Clinic Reminder from Ms. Jenn*
An Update from Ms. Jenn on use of medication at CMS:
Hello CMS families,
I want to review the medication forms we use here at school.
One form is the AUTHORIZATION FOR PRESCRIBED MEDICATION/DRUG OT TREATMENT
This form is to be used if the child’s pediatrician orders any medication/treatment for your child.
The other form is AUTHORIZATION FOR NON-PRESCRIBED MEDICATION OR TREATMENT (secondary version) this is used for over-the-counter medication that we may have here or you would need to provide. (motrin ,tyleonl, cough drops, Neosporin, anti itch, bactine, anti sting ect.) I have a few leftover generic Halls cough drops that I can give to your child once I get a signed form. Once the supply is out you will need to supply the cough drops for your child .
If your child needs an epi-pen or inhaler let me know I can supply the appropriate form. If at any time you have health questions concerning your child in school please call me.
Thank you,
Jennifer Trittschuh RN BSN LSN
